Under the guidance of fully qualified field personnel, you will have the opportunity to be a member of our team of Fire Hall technicians that inspect, test and maintain emergency response and safety-related and personal protective equipment.

You will use your expertise to:

  • Clean and inspect respiratory equipment
  • Assist with annual fire hose and hydrant inspection and testing
  • Check Automated External Defibrillators
  • Help with annual fire extinguisher inspection
  • Assist with fire hydrant and equipment maintenance
  • Enter fire extinguisher data
  • Inspect fire truck equipment
  • Perform housekeeping duties and maintenance as assigned

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • Post-secondary Indigenous students in an accredited post-secondary institution (and returning to full-time studies in the fall)

Preference for:

  • Oil and gas experience and previous safety training
  • Enrolment in an Environmental Health & Safety program
  • A mechanical aptitude and analytical skills to allow for a hands-on operation of plant equipment (i.e. pumps, compressors, heaters, etc.)
  • Ability to work and communicate in a team environment
  • Able to develop creative solutions to problem solve in a dynamic work environment

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will work out of our Edmonton refinery in Sherwood Park, located at 801 Petroleum Way (note: the Edmonton refinery is not accessible via public transportation, so you must have a valid driver’s licence and access to reliable transportation at the time of interview)
  • This is a four-month work term starting the end of April 2019 to the beginning of September
  • The shift schedule is a rotating 12-hour shift
  • Some heavy lifting, use of ladders and working on elevated work sites such as scaffolds and towers
  • Able to perform work in a variety of different environments, both indoor and outdoor as well as within confined spaces
