You will use your expertise to:

  • Support the development of the strategies that help drive the success of Suncor's marine portfolio  with a continuous improvement mindset
  • Provide expertise on technical and commercial marine matters, ensuring safe, reliable and efficient operations of shipments of crude oil, products and equipment for both domestic and international trades
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with marine terminals (both owned and others), refineries, regional supply offices, ship owners, agents, surveyors and expeditors on all matters related to marine movements
  • Steward and optimize contracts-of-affreightment and commercial arrangements for value improvement opportunities
  • Stay informed of operational matters with clients and suppliers and provide updates
  • Prepare a weekly schedule for all movements as well as building and maintaining individual voyage files for each movement
  • Manage data through Suncor’s electronic portal
  • Guarantee proper inspection services are available for each voyage
  • Verify relevant invoices for movements and approve as necessary

We’d like to review your application if you have…

Must-haves (minimum requirements):

  • 10 years of experience in the marine and shipping industry, with an emphasis on chartering, operations and post-fixture
  • Minimum 10 years of sailing experience and / or training in shipping
  • Post-secondary education in Business, Marine Law, a technical degree or an equivalent education
  • Alignment with our values of: safety above all else, respect, raise the bar, commitments matter and do the right thing

Preference for:

  • Master Mariner or Chief Engineer with experience on off-shore vessel operations and Oil Companies International Marine Forum (OCIMF) certification and / or member with the Institute of Chartered Ship Brokers
  • Ship inspection report / chemical distribution institute / offshore vessel inspection database vetting experience
  • Knowledge of post-fixture work, including nomination, demurrage, and invoicing
  • Deep understanding of standard oil company charter parties, clauses and terminology
  • You are a highly motivated self-starter with exceptional analytical skills, a continuous improvement mindset and possess strong non-authoritative leadership skills
  • You possess strong communication skills (both written and verbal) which allow you to collaborate effectively to achieve the best results and deliver the most value
  • You have a strong safety focus and forward-thinking approach

Where you’ll be working, your work schedule, and other meaningful information:

  • You will be located at our Mississauga, Ontario office, located at 2489 North Sheridan Way
  • Hours of work are a regular 40-hour work week, Monday to Friday, with some after-hours calls to resolve operational issues and travel is required
  • You thrive in a dynamic environment with multiple priorities, challenging demands, and strict deadlines
