The Opportunity

 

The Assistant Plant Manager reports to the Plant Manager of a Blending and Packaging facility.  The Assistant Plant Manager is the number 2 in the facility and as such must be able to assume the role of the Plant Manager and his/her duties in their absence.  Like the Plant Manager the Assistant is expected to work directly with members of other functional groups in KPP that support the site to ensure that plant operations in the areas of safety, environmental compliance, quality and productivity are managed on a daily basis.  The Assistant will assist and in some cases lead assigned projects.

    Key Responsibilities: 

     

  • A member on the Site Leadership Team.

  • Leads/Facilitates the Employee Safety Committee as the Senior Leadership Sponsor.

  • Ensures Health and Safety is the number one goal by following policies, processes, and regulatory requirements and acting in a safe manner at all times.

  • Responsible for working with the H&S Manager to ensure understanding of and compliance with Occupational Health & Safety Regulations in Ontario.

  • Ensures all Environmental Compliance requirements are met including, but not limited to Air Permits, SPCC, SWPPP, FRP, and Waste Management.

  • Maintains and is responsible for a high standard of housekeeping at all times.

  • Ensures customer satisfaction by maintaining the target OTIF for outbound shipments

  • Addresses Customer Service inquiries as it relates to our Customer Complaints.

  • Works with the Plant Schedulers to execute the daily production plans according to the plan and schedule.

  • Responsible for the monitor, tracking, and reporting of plant Key Performance Indicators (e.g., Production Schedule Adherence, Line Efficiency, Spills, etc.)

  • Provides hands on leadership and management of the blending, packaging, loading/unloading of rail & tanker trucks, and blow molding operations.

  • Understand the cost structure for operations and works to maintain cost control objectives.

  • Works with employee teams to identify Continuous Process Improvement opportunities using Lean Manufacturing Techniques and solid Project Management skills.

  • Conducts root cause analysis and implement corrective actions as necessary.

  • Trains, motivates, and ensures the development of plant personnel to achieve high moral and efficient use of human resources.

  • Provides timely performance feedback to employees on a routine and consistent basis.

 

 

What does it take to work for Safety-Kleen?

 

  • Demonstrable experience in manufacturing facilities in roles of increasing responsibility preferably in a senior leadership capacity (e.g., Plant Manager, Operations Manager, or Production Manager)

  • Exhibits and committed to Visible Leadership in the areas of safety, quality and continuous process improvement

  • 5+ years’ experience in a Contract blending and packaging facility

  • 5+ years’ experience in management

  • Experienced in working with Seasonal workers

  • Experienced managing projects utilizing Project Management tools (e.g., Ghant Charts, Visio, etc.)

  • Experienced preparing and managing capital projects

  • Had direct responsibility for Budget management/Cost Control

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, MBA would be a plus.
