Highlights of the job

We are hiring up to three (3) full-time temporary, Signals Technician 1, positions (for up to 11 months) working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

As a Signals Technician 1, you will practice a high level of safety awareness and possess a proven ability to work cooperatively in a team environment. As part of this team, you are will perform tasks involved in maintaining, repairing and constructing various transportation and communication systems (Streetlight, LRT, Fiber Optics and/or Traffic systems). 

What you'd be responsible for

  • Installing, maintaining and repairing equipment associated with traffic lights, street lighting and Edmonton Transit's LRT systems.
  • Responding to trouble calls.
  • Escorting high loads.
  • Documenting preventative maintenance.
  • Updating electrical drawings and prints.
  • Performing other duties as required.

What's required to be successful

  • Grade 12 diploma or G.E.D.
  • Journeyman Power Systems Electrician (PSE) Journeyman Electrician or Journeyman Power-line Technician certificate.  Apprentices may be considered.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License, with six (6) or fewer demerits.
    • A Commercial Driver's (5 Year) abstract will be required.
    • Air Brake Endorsement or Class 3 License considered an asset.
  • Able to meet the conditions required for and maintain an EPCOR driver's permit.
  • Willing and able to work with energized equipment.
  • In good physical condition to meet the demands of the position.
  • Clearance on pre-placement medical, drug and alcohol testing is required.
  • Clearance on a security background check is required.

Other important facts about this job

Jurisdiction: IBEW1007; Class: TR2

Starting Wage $52.35 per hour or $55.01 per hour for current Provisional employees, in accordance with the Collective Agreement.

Hours of work: 8.0 hours per day; 40.0 per week between 07:00 and 18:00 hours, 5 days per week, Monday to Friday.  However, in accordance with Article 6.02 of the Collective Agreement, the workweek may be any five (5) consecutive days.
