Highlights of the job

We are hiring two (2) Full Time, Permanent Sewer Substructure Inspector position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

The Primary purpose of this position is to perform Proactive and Reactive Inspections, maintenance, rehabilitation, and repair activities on a variety of undergrounds drainage structures including large diameter storm and sanitary trunk lines, storage tanks and pipes, control structures, interconnection sites, deep manholes and related Drainage structures. Provide input to the Labour Foreman 1 plans and directions, and ensure on-going appropriate relationships with other positions.

What you'd be responsible for

  • Planning and preparing Trunkline walks using blueprints, construction drawings and/or DRAINS program.
  • Performing inspections and maintenance of all personal protective equipment. (Boots, Medical suits, gloves, helmets, harnesses, etc.)
  • Developing and implementing safe work plans, hazard assessments, tailgate talks and all other safety requirements to ensure worker safety within Trunkline.
  • Providing direct rescue response to all Sewer and Substructure Inspectors performing Substructure maintenance and/or inspections while part of the Confined Space Emergency Rescue Team.
  • Performing inspections and maintenance of Oil/Grit Separator Facilities, double barrel trunklines, sanitary and storm trunklines (trunkline infrastructure), deep manholes, interconnection sites, storage tanks, storage pipes, and utilidores.
  • Activities include:
    • Inspections of Cleaning & maintaining gates (testing and greasing)
    • Replacing parts as required.
    • Construction Completion Certificate Inspections (CCC) (inspection required when construction work is partially completed)
    • Final Acceptance Certificate Inspections (FAC) (inspections required when construction work is fully completed).
  • Performing inspections, maintenance/repair, and testing of the Drager air monitoring equipment SCBA and BG4 breathing apparatus, as well as recording and filing all documentation related to the testing and maintenance of said equipment.
  • Responsible for Pre-Trip inspections and truck route planning of Air Break and Trunkline vehicles.
  • Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics - Proactive Trunkline inspections (annual km of inspections completed).
  • Inspecting and maintaining confined space entry and fall protection equipment. Completing detailed video and picture reporting.

What's required to be successful

  • Grade 12 or GED or equivalent is required.
  • Alberta Environment Wastewater Collection Certification - Level 1.
    • Note: For candidates that do not have this certification you must obtain it within 24 months of obtaining the position.
  • Minimum of two (2) years' experience or combination of training and experience working in drainage operations.
  • Note: candidates possessing less than the required years of experience may be considered in a developmental opportunity position.
  • Must be able to successfully complete training as required for this position within Drainage Services.
  • Possession of a valid Alberta Class 5 Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain a valid EPCOR driver's permit.
  • Considerable knowledge of methods, practices and rules of safe operation of assigned equipment.
  • Must pass internal required training needed to perform Trunkline duties.
  • Sound knowledge of the methods and practices used in servicing and maintaining equipment operated.
  • Intermediate knowledge and skill using computers and software programs such as; IVARA, DRAINS, MS Office suite of products (i.e. word, outlook and excel).
  • Demonstrated ability to operate equipment skillfully, safely and in conformance with applicable laws and/or regulations.

 

Due to the safety requirements of this role, the Incumbent must pass a job related physical ability evaluation and be assessed as for fit for duty, every two years. The qualifications (skills and behaviours) listed above must be supplemented with a well-developed and effective verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills combined with the ability to work well within a team environment. A strong commitment to safety and the ability to take an active role in tasks assigned and see them through to completion are required. Other demonstrated competencies required to be successful in this position include taking initiative, adapting to change combined with a focus on continuous improvement.

Wage: $44.94 per hour, Developmental (7401D) at $40.44 per hour; Placement based on qualifications, credentials and experience.
