The successful candidate will engage in a combination of teaching, research and service duties, and will contribute to problem-solving and collaboration with existing and new research partners on campus and in the community.
The successful candidate will help the Department centre Indigenous perspectives throughout any part or all of our existing curriculum focused on various subject matters related to human, environmental, health, and social geography, with opportunity to develop new courses. The Department will facilitate graduate membership and opportunities for graduate supervision in the Master of Spatial Analysis and/or appropriate interdisciplinary programs.
With support, the successful candidate will connect with Indigenous knowledge keepers and research groups on campus, including the Chair in Indigenous Governance, the Yellowhead Institute, the Aboriginal Education Council, Aboriginal Student Services, the Indigenous Scholarship Librarian in the University Library and the Indigenous Advisor in the Yeates
School of Graduate Studies. Other connections may include Ryerson research centres and innovation zones.
Education RequirementsQualifications include:
• PhD in Indigenous Studies, Environmental Studies or Sciences, Geography, or a closely-related field
• All-but-dissertation (ABD) and close to completion of PhD in the required areas may also be considered
• Research/knowledge mobilization and translation profile with evidence of an emerging scholarly record and potential to establish/maintain an independent, externally funded research program capacity for effective teaching and student training
• Develop/maintain partnerships with academic/local communities; commitment to Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
• Indigenous, preferably with a strong commitment to Indigenous knowledges and methodologies; experience collaborating with Indigenous students, organizations and communities
