The National Arts Centre (NAC) is Canada’s bilingual, multi-disciplinary home for the performing arts. The NAC presents, creates, produces, and co-produces performing arts programming in various streams—the NAC Orchestra, Dance, English Theatre, French Theatre, Indigenous Theatre, and Popular Music and Variety. The Centre also invests and nurtures in our next generation of audiences and artists from across Canada. Our vision is to lead and support the renewal of the Canadian performing arts sector over the next three years, as detailed in The Next Act, the NAC’s strategic plan for 2020-2023. Through collaboration and investment in creation, production, co-production, and dissemination, along with a heightened focus on community engagement, learning, and innovation, the NAC will shape a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive future for the performing arts in Canada.
Reporting to the Executive Director of Production, and under the direction of the Manager, Production Services, the Head Technician, Electronic Services Workshop is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of the department. Team skills are of critical importance in dealings with workers, heads of department, Production staff, artists and clients.
The Head Technician, Electronic Services Workshop will have a thorough knowledge of stage audio, video and lighting systems, with a broad understanding and experience in performing arts practices. The candidate will be willing to commit to the long-term development of the Electronic Services Workshop, and to develop their own technical, leadership, interpersonal and managerial skills. They will work with management and department heads in the coordination and execution of troubleshooting, repair, programming and preventative maintenance of the NAC’s backstage technical infrastructure.
In addition to the above, the candidate may be required to work on the creation and development of custom electronic components for stage effects.
This work can occasionally result in stressful situations and the candidate must have the ability to manage these situations in a calm and professional manner.
|Salary||$41.31 Per Hour As Per IATSE Collective Agreement|
• Must be a member in good standing of IATSE local 471;
• Completion of a recognized post-secondary electrical or electronics certificate or equivalent work experience;
• Thorough knowledge of stage lighting, audio and video systems;
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of theatrical electrical and electronic equipment;
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of networks and computer systems;
• Detailed knowledge and understanding of theatrical motorized rigging systems;
• An ability to read and interpret plans and schematics;
• A demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, repair, maintain and program digital audio, video, and lighting systems;
• A demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, repair, maintain and program network infrastructure;
• A demonstrated ability to troubleshoot, repair and maintain a variety of cable types including audio, video, network, coaxial and fiber optic;
• Experience with the repair and maintenance of automated lighting fixtures;
• Ability to coordinate and deliver multiple concurrent projects within schedule and budget constraints;
• Demonstrated ability to develop and maintain good working relationships with artists, clients, colleagues and management;
• Experience working with the following systems are an asset: Optocore, Q-Sys, Crestron, Meyer Galaxy, Digico, D&B Audiotechnik, Riedel, QLab, Sennheiser, ETC EOS and Paradigm;
• Strong working knowledge of both official languages is an asset.
