This is a full time temporary position based in Winnipeg until June 2021.

Your role

We’re looking for you to lead a team that innovates and creates original journalism from Indigenous communities all over Canada.
We have a robust and engaged online community where we share, elevate and celebrate Indigenous stories at and on social platforms.
We want to deepen understanding, build stronger communities and connect Canadians to Indigenous content.
As the Senior Producer of CBC Indigenous, you will lead and manage a dynamic national team from the Maritimes to B.C. to tell stories where the journalists live, to ignite critical conversations and honour diverse cultures.
You will also help develop and support Indigenous staff, interns and freelancers.

Reporting to the Managing Editor, you will actively work with the unit, the Winnipeg team,, local regions and network to provide stories, context and perspective to CBC’s digital platforms, including and our social media platforms
You have great communications skills so that you can liaise with the network to bring our journalism to a national audience
You must be able to make immediate decisions in complex and stressful environments
You will provide support to developing staff and interns, and engage in conversation and feedback with news teams across the country, to constantly improve how we are sharing Indigenous stories. You will lead the unit in acting as a resource for CBC's Indigenous storytelling across the country
You will lead and collaborate on special projects (working with network on impact projects, events (election, school violence, Indigenous peoples month)
You will collaborate with content units on long term projects like Sports on North American Indigenous Games 2020, Arctic Winter Games 2020 and Olympics 2020
You will deliver to network radio and television shows on stories of national interest
You will oversee the Canadian Journalism Foundation CBC Indigenous Fellowship (on the selection committee and running the fellowship program from proposal to budgeting and planning, training, field production and final delivery
You will oversee the CBC Indigenous New Voices program with NSI in Winnipeg, attending events, pitch sessions, holding workshops and working with interns at CBC Indigenous.
Education RequirementsUniversity degree or equivalent
Essential SkillsStrong journalistic skills
Strong visual storytelling skills
Deep knowledge of and connection to Indigenous communities across the country
Ability to assign, manage and motivate staff, coordinate with other departments in a productive manner
Excellent online news judgment and critical thinking
Good communication and interpersonal skills
Strong team player
Experience writing, copy editing, fact-checking and packaging digital content
Knowledge of user-generated content and social media techniques and policies
Use of content management systems such as Polopoly, MPX, Dalet or equivalent systems
Canadian Press style; knowledge of style
Basic video editing
ExperienceSeven years' experience of which three must involve work in journalism or a closely related industry or assignment preferred.
