Through the Faculty of Graduate Studies, AU offers two doctoral programs, seven master’s degree programs, and nine graduate diplomas and certificates. They established the first online doctoral program in business administration within Canada which opened in 2009. In the fall of 2008, AU also initiated the first online doctoral program in education that specializes in distance education in North America.

As the Faculty’s chief academic and administrative officer, the Dean is responsible to the Provost and Vice President Academic for providing strategic, academic and administrative leadership for the Faculty of Graduate Studies. The Dean provides university-wide strategic leadership for graduate program, develops and implements appropriate policies and collaborates with other academic leaders to advance consistency and quality across all graduate programs. A key member of the executive and academic leadership team, the Dean of Graduate Studies will have responsibility for developing the strategies, programs, services and supports to enhance AU’s diverse range of graduate programming.

The successful candidate will be doctorally prepared, an inspirational and effective leader with a demonstrated ability to build consensus in the face of competing demands, have an exemplary academic background and an established record of academic administration. Demonstrable knowledge of distance and online education and current issues, emerging trends in graduate education as well as a track record of interdisciplinary collaboration is required. The candidate of choice will respect and thrive within a collegial culture and work towards inclusivity, consultation and transparency.
