As the first university-based common law school in the nation, the Schulich School of Law offers a unique and enlightened approach to legal education. Reporting to the Dean, the Assistant Dean, Student Services and Engagement is an integral part of the senior management team of the Law School and plays an indispensable role in all matters related to the quality of the student experience.

Key Responsibilities:
• Provide leadership and vision in the development, delivery, and review of initiatives and services aimed at ensuring that the Schulich School of Law is a national leader in offering a high-quality student experience that is respectful, inclusive and serves our diverse student body.
• Contribute to the Law School’s and the University’s success by leading the development of the Law School’s strategic and operational plans and by ensuring that the Law School achieves its student services and engagement goals.
• Research and collaborate with other similar professionals in Canadian and international law schools and universities to ensure that the Schulich School of Law is leading in the implementation of excellence in the student services delivery.
• Lead the Law School’s initiatives and programs designed to enhance student academic success, wellness, engagement and retention, and the overall student experience across Schulich Law’s academic programs. Advocate for students in all aspects of academic and personal wellness, providing advice, direction, support, counselling and decisions on individual and collective student problems and concerns.
• Promote and lead the School’s mandate on equity, diversity, and inclusion in all aspects of the student experience.

Qualifications:
Considerable related experience, including as part of a senior management team in the post-secondary sector, with a graduate degree (or equivalent combination of training and experience) is required. A Juris Doctor (JD), or Master’s degree in a field relevant to student services delivery (i.e. counselling, adult education) is preferred. Knowledge of Canadian law schools and the Canadian legal profession is required. Demonstrated leadership in program design and evaluation, policy development, strategic planning, and coaching/counselling is essential. The successful candidate will be tactful and diplomatic, with an ability to maintain composure and retain a positive and professional attitude under pressure and in difficult situations. Understanding of issues, challenges and opportunities relating to the equity, diversity, and inclusion of law school students from underrepresented groups is vital to this role. Superior written and verbal communication, public speaking, and presentation skills are required.
