We are looking for a Technical Officer to support our Aquatic and Crop Resource Development Research Centre. The Technical Officer would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.

As part of the Zebrafish Toxicology, Genomics and Neurobiology team the Platform Technical Officer will support NRC, other government departments and industry research activities through technical assistance, animal care and facility maintenance of the NRC zebrafish facility in Halifax. The incumbent will be part of a multidisciplinary team, providing essential support for ongoing projects and programs involving our industry partners and other government departments and agencies in the area of toxicology and biomedical research.

SalaryFrom $49,298 To $69,364 Per Annum
Education RequirementsBachelor of Science Degree with a major in one of the life sciences or equivalent combination of work-related experience, training and education.

Preference will be given to candidates who have Canadian Council on Animal Care (CCAC) certification regarding laboratory animal care.
Essential Skills• Knowledge of zebrafish husbandry, breeding and development;
• Knowledge of occupational health and safety best practices required to create and maintain a safe and healthy work environment;
• Ability to manage time to maximize productivity.
Experience• Hands-on experience in the maintenance of the health and safety of research animals within a zebrafish research facility;
• Experience in performing zebrafish husbandry and technical duties following standard operating protocols related to animal care;
• Experience in operating and maintaining recirculating aquatic systems would be considered an asset;
• Experience in maintaining a zebrafish breeding colony would be considered an asset;
• Experience in routine practices using zebrafish as a model organism for evaluating toxicity or biomedical research would be considered an asset;
• Experience in the use of computers and common computer software to track, monitor and analyze data.

• The work schedule will be from Thursday to Monday.
• Must be able to work in a warm laboratory environment (25°C to 30°C).
