The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations & Rural Development is part of the BC Public Service & is responsible for land & resource management in BC. We ensure the sustainable management of forests, wildlife, water & other land-based resources & work with Indigenous & rural communities to strengthen & diversify economies.

The Mackenzie team provides expert advice and decision support relating to multiple business areas in the district. Your primary duties as the First Nations Relations Advisor will be centered on conducting consultations for the use of natural resources on Crown land and determining the impact on First Nations identified or potential traditional use areas. A skilled and effective written and verbal communicator, you communicate with First Nations on natural resource applications and liaise with ministry staff as an expert on the legal and procedural requirements of First Nations consultation. A collaborative approach is crucial to this role as you successfully establish and maintain productive working relationships with a wide variety of contacts from: First Nations, industry, contractors, environmental agencies, stakeholders and provincial and federal agencies.

Qualifications for this role include:

• Degree related to the natural resource sector (e.g., forestry, resource management, geography, environmental science) and related work experience, OR
• Diploma related to the natural resource sector (e.g., forestry, resource management, geography, environmental science) and a minimum of 2 years of related work experience. OR
• An equivalent combination of education and/or experience may be considered.

Related experience includes:
• Work experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, natural resource management, or natural resource authorizations/development issues.
