Based in British Columbia, Skeena Fisheries Commission (SFC) is the Skeena Watershed aboriginal organization that focuses on fisheries management, science, and conservation. SFC is now the host of the Business Development Team (BDT), a team of fisheries and aquaculture advisors that work with Indigenous communities and Commercial Fishing Enterprises in all aspects of business development and access to resources from the Pacific Integrated Commercial Fishing Initiative (PICFI).

On their behalf we are seeking experts to report to the BDT Team Lead in the following roles:

Aquaculture Business Development Advisor

You will provide business and technical support services in the aquaculture sector to Indigenous communities in British Columbia under the PICFI.

Ideally, you have a degree in Fisheries and Aquaculture, Sciences or Business with an extensive background in both the technical and business aspects of aquaculture. You are familiar with government business support programs and have knowledge of Indigenous governance, government policy processes, and understand the issues and challenges in this sector.

You have well-honed interpersonal and communication skills, coupled with a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability. You possess solid negotiation, conflict resolution, and people management skills and have a significant competency in the areas of analysis, research and problem-solving.

Capacity Development and Training Advisor

You will act as business advisor and advocate to commercial fishing enterprises as they provide community-based employment and training opportunities.

A post-secondary degree in Community Development, Economic Development, Adult Education or Human Resources and several years’ experience in the sector are required. You have project management and consulting experience and a demonstrated knowledge and interest in Indigenous issues, Indigenous governance, and community development. You possess a technical understanding of fisheries and fisheries training and an ability to learn industry training needs and communicate them effectively.

Self-motivated, you possess a high level of integrity, confidentiality, and accountability. You are skilled in meeting facilitation and can professionally represent the organization with government officials, affiliated organizations, and the public.

Both positions require frequent travel within British Columbia and will work remotely from a home office.
