Ministry of Agriculture and Food Multiple Locations (On-Site) There is currently 1 temporary opportunity for an as and when needed inspection position until March 31, 2024. This position can be based out Cranbrook or Creston. Meat Hygiene and Agri-food Inspector $37.08 to $42.16 hourly plus 1 Grid TMA The Ministry of Agriculture works to promote an innovative, adaptive and globally competitive agri-foods sector for the benefit of all British Columbians. The agri-foods sector (agriculture, fisheries, aquaculture and processing) is an important and successful contributor to the B.C. economy and has responded vigorously to challenges and opportunities. The Ministry's support of healthy and safe agri-food and seafood production and post-production processing provides new and value-added products for domestic and international markets, contributing to B.C. jobs and the economy as well as to diversified rural communities. As a Meat Hygiene and Agri-food Inspector, you provide inspection services according to provincial policies and procedures to licensed abattoirs and perform ante-mortem and post-mortem inspection of animals, recording observations and ensuring meat handling procedures are observed. You are an effective communicator, able to educate facility operators and staff regarding applicable policies and deal with potential situations of conflict. You will share expertise with new/apprenticing meat inspectors; evaluate livestock management and adherence to best practices for animal welfare; and conduct preliminary food safety inspection of meat processing activities. You will work on a professional team committed to maintaining and establishing the standard required to keep B.C.'s meat production industry safe. Qualifications for this role include: - Training and experience working as a meat inspector in a slaughter establishment; OR, - Secondary school graduation (or equivalent) education with training and experience in meat processing; OR, - A Diploma in animal science, veterinary technician, food science, or meat processing. | |
