Reporting to the Vice-President Academic and Provost, the Associate Vice-President Academic Planning (AVPAP) is a key member of the Provost’s team, working to advance the academic vision of the University. The AVPAP’s responsibilities include contributing leadership to the University’s academic direction and related strategic plans; coordinating and supporting academic planning in the faculties; planning and facilitating new academic programs and initiatives; and attending to the quality and excellence of those programs. The AVPAP also plays a significant role in integrating academic planning with other areas, including enrolment management, student services, research and technology, and capital and facilities planning.

The ideal candidate will be an accomplished and respected scholar in relation to both teaching and research, appointable as a professor at UVic. A track record of success as an administrator in a university (experience at the level of chair of a department or higher) with an understanding of the diverse missions and practices of the University as articulated in the Strategic Framework. With a commitment to excellence in teaching and research-inspired education, the AVPAP will have the capacity to lead, develop and maintain collegial, collaborative relationships of respect and trust, and exercise influence using diplomacy.
