Have the highest level of creative thinking and an ability to originate and develop innovative program or production concepts as well as techniques and procedures. The Executive Producer is responsible for the following key tasks: Providing hands-on-editorial direction, while working collaboratively with producers and network news to cover major events. Coordinating daily news with NorthBeat TV producers in Yellowknife, CBC North locations and as needed with Indigenous, Syndication and network news. Liaise with Communications and support CBC-sponsored events with newsroom resources on all platforms as appropriate. Providing program guidance around story coverage including length, deadlines, updates, treatments and value-added material, ensuring close collaboration between program units and news. Planning, organizing, coordinating and monitoring all Yukon program content to ensure breadth of coverage, variety of innovative treatments and quality of work throughout the day Resource allocation, as well as budget and business outcomes. Establishing a vision and measurable outcomes for programming and ensuring the team adheres to targets. Providing strong direction throughout the day to the program team on - expectation around story coverage and development. Planning, leading and assigning special event coverage. Liaising with other programs and departments, including news and regions. Developing staff by providing mentorship and opportunities to personnel assigned to the program, as well as freelance contributors, giving ongoing feedback and using the performance management process, and overseeing internships and scholarships. Being the lead on journalistic policy, legal expertise and editorial judgment for the program team. Performing all or part of the function or duties of producers as required. Communicating with the audience, including responding to Ombudsperson complaints. | |
| Essential Skills | We’re looking for a leader who has the following: Curiosity and knowledge of the Yukon and diverse northern communities. A passion for journalism, critical thinking, analysis and innovative storytelling. Solid journalistic skills with an understanding of legal and ethical issues. Knowledge and experience working with digital media, radio, podcast. Growth and continuous improvement mindset. Strong communication skills. Demonstrated coaching and mentorship skills. Experience leading and/or managing teams. Proven ability to foster a safe and vibrant team culture. Ability to work flexible hours as required, including early morning, evening, weekend and holiday shifts. Ability to work within tight timelines. Experience producing news on more than one platform (Asset). Knowledge of CBC editorial policies, including mandates and CBC's Journalistic Standards and Practices. Candidates may be subject to skills and knowledge testing. |
| Experience | A combination of relevant education and/or experience equivalent to a relevant degree with seven years’ experience, of which five must involve work in a leadership role in a newsroom. |
