Description
The National Indigenous Fisheries Institute (NIFI) is an Indigenous organization that focuses on fisheries management, science, and conservation. NIFI hosts the Business Development Team, a group of fisheries and aquaculture advisors who work with Indigenous communities and Commercial Fishing Enterprises throughout Northern Canada in all aspects of business development.

The team also provides advice and assistance to participants in the Northern Integrated Commercial Fisheries Initiative (NICFI), a program administered by Fisheries and Oceans Canada, to ensure participants access the resources available through that program.

In this role as Business Development Advisor, you will advise on management practices, including business planning, governance, project management, human resources, and business operations that reflect best practices in rural community development.

What qualities are needed in this role?

Ideally, you have several years of progressive, practical experience in economic development, community development, management consulting, fisheries, or similar role.

You have worked with Indigenous communities and organizations in the past and are knowledgeable of Indigenous governance practices. In addition, you are familiar with the business support programs of the federal and provincial governments and other agencies. Knowledge of community and rural economic development best practices is also valuable in this role.

You have well-developed interpersonal and communication skills that enable you to work collaboratively at all times.

This is a work-from-home position, and you can be located anywhere in Canada so long as there is reasonable travel access to the North.

Experience living and travelling within remote Arctic communities and understanding French or any of the Inuk languages would be helpful.
