| Job Duties - Coach members across all ability levels to develop and improve skills and abilities. - Develop, plan and coordinate training schedules, practice sessions and competitions in compliance with Provincial and National Sports Association standards and karate curriculum. - Assess the progress of members and provide feedback on strengths and weaknesses. - Prepare and motivate members for belt ranking assessments and competitions. - Be part of a professional judging panel to analyse and evaluate those attempting the next karate belt rank and implement modified training programs to assist members achieve their ranking. - Maintain smooth operation and cleanliness of physical space. - May help oversee promotion and merchandise campaigns. - May help recruit and train new instructors and coaches. - May help organize guest instructors, coaches and visiting groups. Employment Requirements - Minimum of 3 to 5 years of experience as a karate coach or instructor. - 3rd degree black belt or higher in a Shito Ryu school of karate recognized by Karate Canada. - Thorough understanding of Japanese karate and Canada's National Coaching Certification Program training methods. - Background in competing, coaching and officiating in major Karate tournaments within the World Karate Federation's competition system, which is the only system recognized by Karate BC, Karate Canada, Sport Canada and Coaching Canada. - Excellent oral communication and interpersonal skills. - Ability to stand for extended periods. - English language ability. - Japanese language proficiency is considered an asset, but is not essential. - Experience training or living in Japan is considered an asset, but is not essential. Job Details - $25.13 per hour. - Full-time (35 hours per week). - Permanent position. - Free Parking. - Uniform and workwear provided. - Karate British Columbia ('KBC') annual membership provided.
