Ministry of Forests There is currently one (1) permanent opportunity available with the Skeena Stikine District. This position can be in Burns Lake, Smithers or Terrace, BC. Other Ministry office locations may be considered, subject to Ministry operational requirements and space availability at time of offer. Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations $70,683.48 - $89,678.84 annually, plus a $37.31 bi-weekly isolation allowance for Burns Lake and a $34.20 bi-weekly isolation allowance for Smithers The Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations examines controversial proposals of high economic value for use of natural resources on Crown Land and determine the impact on Indigenous Nations identified or potential traditional use areas. This position carries out consultations and negotiations to address Indigenous peoples' concerns while minimizing any negative impacts on provincial revenues. As the Senior Advisor, Indigenous Relations, you will play the lead role in supervision, training, and elements of leading system set-up in the area of consultation. In addition to the mandatory job requirements, the recruitment for this role will focus on skills and experience related to three major themes: training and Indigenous relations resource development for the District of Skeena Stikine staff; problem solving and issues management in the natural resource sector; as well as consultation knowledge and experience. Qualifications for this role include: - Must be registered, or immediately eligible for registration, with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, or Association of Professional Engineers and Geoscientists of the Province of BC). Note: Immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made. - Master's Degree in natural resource management, forestry, agrology, engineering or a related discipline and at least one (1) year of recent (gained within the last five (5) years), related experience; OR, - Bachelor's Degree in natural resource management, forestry, agrology, engineering or a related discipline and at least three (3) years of recent (gained within the last five (5) years), related experience. Recent (gained within the last five (5) years), related experience must include both of the following: - Experience conducting research and analysis related to land use, resource management, social or economic development issues and preparing recommendations for senior decision-makers. - Experience leading consultations or participating in negotiations with Indigenous peoples. | |
