ICA is seeking a visionary, values-driven, and relationally attuned Executive Director to lead this powerful organization through its next chapter of growth and transformation. This is a rare opportunity to steward one of the most vital Indigenous climate justice organizations on Turtle Island.

The successful candidate will be rooted in community, committed to decolonial practices, and have a deep understanding of Indigenous sovereignty and climate justice. They will be an inspiring and grounded leader who leads with humility, listens deeply, and thrives in collaborative environments. They will hold the courage to challenge systemic injustices, and the wisdom to honour the knowledge already present within ICA.

CredentialsThe Executive Director (ED) will be a seasoned and values-aligned leader with a demonstrated commitment to Indigenous sovereignty and climate justice. This individual will bring strategic vision, grounded community connection, and a deep respect for ICA's decolonial and collaborative model. The ED will serve as a relational leader and systems thinker, able to foster meaningful partnerships, inspire and support staff, and guide the organization through continued growth while remaining rooted in its core mission and values.
Reporting to the Board of Directors and working in close collaboration with the leadership team and the National Steering Committee, the ED will provide organizational oversight and advance strategic goals developed in community. This includes ensuring the operational and financial health of the organization, sustaining and growing philanthropic partnerships, and continuing to build and steward strong internal and external relationships.
The successful candidate will understand the responsibility of relational leadership and bring a commitment to care, accountability, and shared power. They will be a steady and inspiring presence who upholds Indigenous-led approaches to governance, advocacy, and climate action.
Education RequirementsA bachelor's degree and or equivalent life experience.
Essential Skills- Ability to effectively communicate the organization's mission to donors, volunteers, and the overall community;
- A history of successfully generating new revenue streams and improving financial results;
- Active fundraising experience. Excellent donor relations skills and understanding of the funding community;
- Previous success in establishing relationships with individuals and organizations of influence including funders, partner agencies and volunteers;
- Solid organizational abilities, including planning, delegating, program development, and task facilitation;
- Strong financial management skills, including budget preparation, analysis, decision-making, and reporting;
- Lived experience and knowledge of Indigenous Peoples' rights and worldviews, Indigenous community frontline challenges and decolonial pedagogies;
- Proven existing and ongoing community relationships relevant to supporting Indigenous-led education and programs for climate justice;
- Experience working with multi-media platforms (Slack, Monday, social media, etc.) to organize and manage projects and teams;
- Demonstrate knowledge and skill using Microsoft Office Suite, Google Suite, and CRM systems;
- Experience with online and offline community-based consultation and engagement;
- Willingness and ability to travel as required for meetings, events, and community engagement activities;
- Experience working with Indigenous-led organizations and structures that challenge systems of colonization, white supremacy, patriarchy, and capitalism is an asset; and
- Member of an Indigenous community and fluent in an Indigenous language is an asset.
Experience- 5+ years of senior nonprofit management experience;
- Experience and skill working with a Board of Directors;
- Proven success leading teams in remote or decentralized work environments;
- Experience leading or supporting collaborative, consensus-driven decision-making structures, particularly within Indigenous contexts;
- Background in navigating complex funding environments, including experience working with U.S.- and Canada-based philanthropic organizations;
- Experience stewarding organizational growth and transitions while maintaining cultural and values alignment;
- Experience in policy advocacy, public speaking, or media engagement on issues of climate justice, Indigenous rights, or decolonization is an asset; and
- Deep familiarity with the Indigenous political and legal landscape in so-called Canada, including the ability to navigate multi-jurisdictional or nation-to-nation contexts.
