The Ministry of Forests, Lands and Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development has an unparalleled employment opportunity available as an Ecosystems Biologist in the Haida Gwaii Natural Resource District that provides for personal and career growth through the assignment of diverse and challenging work, in both the field and office environments. As the Ecosystems Biologist, you will develop and implement ecosystem conservation, Species at Risk, restoration and enhancement projects with other agencies on the archipelago. The position serves a role in gathering and providing a broad range of aquatic and terrestrial expertise to Statutory Decision Makers of various resource sectors and will provide a key professional role to the assessment of management practices on ecosystems and species of concern in the region. Acting as a designated Habitat Officer, you will also lead the Haida Gwaii Natural Resource District with the review and preparation of authorizations that fall under the Water Sustainability Act. Dajing Giids or the Village of Queen Charlotte is one of seven communities on Haida Gwaii. 90 km off the northwest coast of British Columbia and just south of the Alaska panhandle, Haida Gwaii is the unceded territory of the Haida Nation (http://www.haidanation.ca/) and home to a diverse group of rural island dwellers. Qualifications for this role include: • Degree in biological sciences, natural resource conservation/management or equivalent. • Registered (or eligible) as a Registered Professional Biologist (RP Bio) in B.C. with the College of Applied Biology within six months of employment. • Minimum 3 years of recent (within the past 5 years) experience in biological sciences, natural resource management experience, or environmental monitoring. | |
