Legal Counsel

An exciting opportunity for junior counsel to join the Litigation Group

Lawyers in the Legal Services Branch discharge the duties and functions assigned to the Attorney General under the Attorney General Act. Legal Counsel represent the Attorney, the Province and other government associated persons and entities in all levels of court. They are expected to negotiate and recommend settlements where appropriate and provide litigation-related advice in every area of government practice. The work of a Legal Counsel involves matters of a confidential and sensitive nature.

Legal Counsel have a broad range of professional skills enabling them to give advice in areas of law outside the dimensions of their regularly assigned legal responsibilities. These lawyers deal with matters that can involve large sums of public funds and/or of importance to the public interest. They are expected to advise on current developments in the law which may affect areas of concern to government. They may assist in developing and recommending alternatives and initiating changes in these areas of the law when required.

Qualifications for this role include:
- must be a member in good standing or immediately eligible to become a member of the Law Society of British Columbia;
- 3-5 years of call to the bar in a Canadian jurisdiction; and
- experience in the conduct of litigation at the Supreme Court of British Columbia and/or the British Columbia Court of Appeal.
Salary$92,531.96 - $119,850.85 per year
