Northern Lights College invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, Trades and Apprenticeships.

Since opening its doors in 1975, Northern Lights College (NLC) has grown from a single campus to five, covering an area of 324,000 square kilometres. A member of BC Colleges, NLC offers 60 full-time Trades and Apprenticeships, Academic and Vocational, Distance and Online Learning, and Workforce Training and Continuing Education certificate, diploma and associate degree programs and courses. An Industry Training Authority (ITA) approved training provider in the Interprovincial (Red Seal) trade, NLC has been offering Trades and Apprenticeships programming for over 40 years. NLC enjoys strong collaborations with industry partners, ensuring that programs meet the demands of regional industry, and students are provided with diverse opportunities and a solid foundation on which they can build their careers in the trades.

Reporting to the Vice-President, Academic and Research, the Dean will be distinguished leader possessing a Certificate in Trades Journeyman or a related area of study; a postsecondary degree will be considered an asset. They will have a broad understanding of the nuances of operating in a resource-based industry, and an appreciation for the range of Trades and Apprenticeships programming at NLC. Among other responsibilities, the Dean will effectively manage budgets and resources, promote excellence in teaching and learning, and nurture mutually beneficial relationships with internal stakeholders. A key priority of the Dean, Trades and Apprenticeships will be to build connections and maintain direct contact with representatives from major regional industrial leaders and other significant employers across the region.

The Dean will provide visionary and inspiring leadership and possess strong commercial acumen and a proven track record of developing strong partnerships with external partners and communities. They will also bring significant leadership experience that illustrates their commitment and sensitivity toward Indigeneity, diversity, and inclusion, along with a demonstrated ability to address systemic, structural, and historical disadvantage in pedagogy, as well as employment and admissions. The successful candidate will encourage collegiality and collaboration while balancing consultation with sound decision-making, empower faculty, staff, and students, be an excellent communicator and motivator, and a person with high emotional intelligence and unassailable integrity and character.
