Tenure Track Position in Health Services Research

The Faculty of Health Sciences (the ‘Faculty’) at Simon Fraser University (SFU) invites applications from outstanding career scholars for a tenure track appointment as Assistant or Associate Professor in Health Services Research. The ideal applicant will be expected to develop and maintain a leading national and/or international research program in health services research and contribute to undergraduate and graduate education in this field. They will hold a Ph.D. or comparable qualification in a field related to health services research. Applications from a range of methodological backgrounds are encouraged.

At a level commensurate with the appointment rank, the Faculty seeks a colleague with the ability to (i) develop an independent and robust research program in health services research and (ii) teach and mentor at an undergraduate and graduate level. The preferred applicant will have a Ph.D. or comparable qualification (e.g., MD, RN, or equivalent, plus extensive research training) in health services research, health policy, or other related field; a proven track record of research in this field; demonstrable teaching ability; demonstrated ability to establish relationships with external partners; the ability to work collaboratively and independently; and excellent interpersonal and communication skills. Other desirable traits include: a track record in obtaining external research funding; experience working in transdisciplinary research settings; experience in curriculum development and innovative teaching methods; experience of managing, supervising, and supporting research staff; teaching excellence; and experience in successfully supervising undergraduate and/or graduate students.

The successful candidate will join colleagues in the Faculty’s transdisciplinary Research Challenge Area of Policy and Systems Research.

The Faculty is located on the unceded traditional territories of the Coast Salish peoples, including the səl̓ilw̓ətaʔɬ (Tsleil-Waututh), kʷikʷəƛ̓əm (Kwikwetlem), Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw (Squamish) and xʷməθkʷəy̓əm (Musqueam) Nations at the SFU Burnaby campus. Created in 2005, the Faculty's mission is to improve the health of individuals and populations and to reduce health inequities through excellence in interdisciplinary research and education, in partnership with local, national and global communities. The Faculty is committed to social justice, respect for human dignity, and equity. The successful candidate will join a diverse and dynamic team of more than 50 multidisciplinary faculty members and will have the opportunity to engage with and teach outstanding students in the PhD, MSc, MPH, and BA/BSc programs. The Faculty maintains collaborative agreements and partnerships with the BC government, regional health authorities, the First Nations Health Authority, research centres, and other health agencies.
