Interlake and Peguis Fisher River Campus

Position Location: Interlake Campus/Selkirk, MB (40km outside of Winnipeg, MB)

Part-Time, Term Position Available
Anticipated October 01, 2019 up to March 31, 2020
Possibility of an Extension to June 26, 2020

Duties: The Academic Student Success Coach works directly with students both one-on-one and in group settings to provide a personalized range of services that support student academic success during all stages of the student life cycle at Red River College's Regional Campuses (pre-entry, admissions, early alert, within program, and employability preparation). Academic Student Success Coaches provide students with academic success tutoring, guidance and an accountability structure as they work through their programs. The activities are more interventionist in nature, requiring students to self-identify areas of need in order to create a strategic learning plan. Academic Student Success Coaches support and hold students accountable as they work to better their study, content, time management or life skills as needed for success.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Post-secondary education in education and counselling. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered
- Experience facilitating individual and group sessions in academic skills including self-management, attitude, motivation, time management, concentration, study aids/strategies and test strategies
- Ability to assess/diagnose student learning needs and make appropriate referrals
- Familiarity with educational resources used for students from vulnerable populations and for learning disabilities, adult literacy and numeracy
- Proficiency with MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, email, and internet
- Excellent verbal communication skills
- Exceptional written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Strong critical thinking skills

ASSET QUALIFICATIONS
- Knowledge and experience with the College's learning management and Early alert systems
- Certificate in Adult Education or equivalent

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
- Applicants must be legally entitled to work in Canada
- This position may be required to work evenings and/or weekends
- This position may be required to travel
- Incumbent must provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Records Check, including a Vulnerable Persons Sector Check
- A valid Manitoba Driver's License
