About Us
As the academic commons of the University, Western Libraries provides the library and archival expertise and infrastructure - information resources, technology, people, and spaces - required to cultivate and mobilize knowledge, and accelerate excellence in teaching, research and scholarship.

Responsibilities
The Facilities Assistant is responsible for organizing and transporting mail, cash and other items, as required, between all Western Libraries (WL) locations and affiliates. The Facilities Assistant sources and procures routine and special order supplies and equipment for Western Libraries. In addition, the Facilities Assistant provides internal facility support for Western Libraries by monitoring library vehicle maintenance, conducting furniture moves, installations, and emergency telephone safety inspections. The Facilities Assistant also oversees the conference supply service.

Qualifications
Education:
- 2 year community college diploma

Experience:
- 2 years' experience in supply requisition, mail room activity and truck driving/delivery
- 2 years' experience providing building maintenance and repair in a relevant environment

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

- Knowledge of Canada Post, Canada Customs regulations and courier procedures
- Demonstrated ability to operate hand and power tools and equipment safely
- Ability to use hand and power tools to perform repair and maintenance tasks
- Verbal communication skills to clearly express ideas in an objective manner, and adapt communication style to suit the situation and audience
- Demonstrated ability take initiative, to work independently and follow through on work assignments
- Ability to apply active listening to hear and understand the complete message being communicated
- Competency to maintain confidentiality and treat sensitive information with discretion
- Ability to establish rapport with people from diverse backgrounds
- Ability to maintain a positive, outgoing attitude with genuine customer service orientation
- Ability to multi-task and maintain an organized and effective personal work environment
- Adapts readily and effectively to changing priorities and demands
- Personable and courteous in working relationships with colleagues, students and the public
- Ability to demonstrate patience and focus to complete detailed administrative tasks
- Ability to interact professionally with students, staff, faculty, and other members of the University community
- Ability to work independently and effectively as a member of the team to achieve department goals
- Basic proficiency required in Microsoft Office in order to prepare email, memos, correspondence, input departmental data in spreadsheets, other records systems
- Familiarity with software applications used by Western preferred - e.g. e-mail, calendars, Mustang Market
