The Opportunity
The position is based in Spruce Grove, Alberta and reports to the Construction Services Manager while providing team supervision support for Construction Services West in Canada.

The successful candidate will supervise a construction crew within the group while performing pipeline maintenance on all Canadian Pipes.

The regular work schedule will be (9 days on, 5 days off over a 14-day period):
Week 1 - Tuesday to Sunday 9 hours/day;
Week 2 - Monday to Tuesday 9 hours/day; Wednesday is an 8 hour/day.

What you'll do

  • Develop and supervise daily and weekly work plans, crew sizes of 6-15 workers
  • Plan, coordinate and supervise onsite third-party contractors
  • Ensure all work tasks and duties comply with TC Energy's Operating Procedures and Community, Safety and Environmental Policies
  • Develop crew members through identification of cross training opportunities and technical evaluations
  • Conduct / lead performance management sessions with employees
  • Supervise and manage the execute all phases of pipeline maintenance including hot cuts, hot taps, cold cuts, casing projects, class upgrades, hydro-testing, re-coating of pipelines, and other various projects related to pipeline construction
  • Maintain excellent crew collaboration during work activities
  • Ensure efficient and effective work hours while optimizing the crews overtime hours
  • Communicate with Planners, Construction Foreman, Business Analyst and Managers to ensure projects are completed safely, effectively and efficiently
  • Provide supervision for daily and weekly activities and administrative support including work hours, permits, expenses and logistic items
  • Proficient while delivering pre-job, tailgate, and safety meetings
  • Perform emergency response activities

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 5 years related experience with understanding complicated excavations and welding projects
  • 5 years working blueprints, alignment sheets or other similar type cad drawings and supervision
  • Proven informal leadership experience
  • Hands on pipeline construction experience
  • Knowledge of hydro static testing procedures, integrity dig procedures and new pipe/launcher & receiver installation
  • Proven knowledge of heavy equipment operation including all yellow iron (excavators, dozer, loaders, pipe layers) as well as CMV regulated vehicles (transports trucks and mobile cranes)

  • Demonstrated leadership, coaching and motivational skills within a construction environment
  • Demonstrated ability to create and maintain a successful team at a high functioning level
  • Proven time management, organizational and planning skills
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage conflict
  • Change management skills
  • Demonstrated level of knowledge with respect to pipeline integrity work and welding activities
  • Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Windows)
  • Strong construction supervision skills

This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid class 5 driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, to include drug and alcohol testing
  • Carry a Company provided cell phone and work a rotating on-call schedule and be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and work extended days and/or weeks for emergency response purposes
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings, or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home
  • Be subject to working conditions which include adverse weather and temperatures and cramped conditions
