The opportunity
Reporting to the Vice-President and Treasurer, we are seeking a Director, Financial Trading and Pension Asset Management who has proven skills, competencies and experience to lead TC Energy's financial risk management and pension asset management teams. The financial risk management team is responsible for developing strategy and managing our foreign exchange, liquidity and interest rate exposures with the objectives of reducing financial performance volatility, minimizing consolidated financial charges and creating economic value for TC Energy. Financial instruments are used to manage these exposures within established risk tolerances and controls. The pension asset management team is responsible for managing a significant portfolio of invested assets in various pension plans and trusts in both Canada and the U.S. and is also responsible for governance and reporting related to the plans.

What will you do

  • Lead a team of financial traders responsible for developing strategy and executing the management of TC Energy's significant foreign exchange and interest rate exposures with an active portfolio of derivatives
  • Oversee the management of a robust commercial paper and investment program
  • Lead a team responsible for the invested assets of various pension plans and trusts including defined benefit, defined contribution, capital accumulation, health and welfare plans and pipeline abandonment trusts
  • Identify, monitor and manage risks and develop and recommend strategies for effective management thereof, within TC Energy's risk management policies
  • For the pension and trust assets, monitor investment performance and asset mix, advise on potential investment strategy changes, and validate market based assumptions
  • Ensure compliance with polices, mandates and regulations
  • Prepare materials for distribution and participate in various senior leadership, committee and board of director meetings
  • Collaborate, communicate and maintain strong relationships with many different internal and external groups (corporate finance, cash management, risk management, accounting, tax, human resources, legal, banks, investment managers, pension service providers) as required to deliver results

Minimum qualifications

  • University degree in business, finance or economics
  • Professional designation such as the CFA charter or equivalent
  • Minimum of 10 years of progressive work experience, with experience in a financial markets-focused environment
  • Strong understanding of economics, financial markets, products and risk management concepts
  • Strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to represent the company in a professional manner
  • Results-oriented, driven and organized problem solver with a desire to improve efficiency
  • Ability to prioritize and handle multiple assignments and projects, and make decisions in a dynamic and, at times, stressful environment
  • Ability to lead an effective team with integrity and create an environment where employees feel included, valued and supported

Preferred qualifications

  • Ability to work effectively across all levels in the organization, where flexibility, collaboration, and adaptability are important
  • Understanding of accounting concepts related to financial instruments
  • Proficiency with systems such as Bloomberg, Excel, Power BI, SAP, etc.
  • Strong project management skills
  • Some travel is required
