The opportunity
Our Facilities and Pipeline Engineer team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business and we are expanding our presence in Dawson Creek, BC. We are seeking a Compression and Measurement Field Engineer (Field Engineer) who will support the construction and commissioning of the Coastal GasLink Wilde Lake Compressor Station and Meter Stations. As a member of the team, the Field Engineer will be supporting activities related to the technical execution of facilities work, including the fabrication, construction, and commissioning scopes of work. Projects will be executed in accordance with TC Energy's Project Delivery System (PDS). The Field Engineer will support the Project Manager and Construction Management team with the engineering and technical requirements of compression and measurement projects. This position reports to the Manager, CGL Facilities and Pipeline Engineering,

This position requires candidates to:
· Have and maintain a valid Driver's License
· Provide a Driver's Abstract for review
· Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing
· Regular travel is required from Dawson Creek to the Wilde Lake Compressor Station

Note: This opportunity will require you to work at the Wilde Lake Compressor Station, 45km from Dawson Creek where you will reside while on shift working a 14 days on / 7 days off work schedule. TC Energy will cover the transportation costs back to Calgary, AB on the scheduled days off.

What you'll do

  • Work closely with Subject Matter Experts (SME), engineering service provider (ESP), the prime contractor, and other stakeholders (e.g. operations) to construct as per the design ensuring alignment with commercial drivers and scope requirements
  • Ensure project design and technical scoping, performance of design work, and change management are devised and implemented per project and regulatory requirements
  • Provide direct support to Project Manager to create deliverables aiding project decision making and milestones
  • Support procurement activities (technical review, data sheets, etc.), and assist in coordination of material deliveries to the prime contractor and site
  • Lead discussions of and resolve technical/engineering issues during construction and commissioning, including Request for Information (RFI) and on-site issues as they arise
  • Support the Project Manager in developing and reviewing request for quote packages, contractor change order requests, capital cost estimates, schedule and risk registers
  • Communicate technical changes in the contract scope of work to the prime contractor that arise from DCNs
  • Communicate with client groups regularly and facilitate discussions with internal and external stakeholders to meet client expectations
  • Coordinate internal and external engineering activities to deliver timely engineering responses to RFIs
  • Provide input into key learnings with commitment to continuous improvement of project process' and systems
  • Support the construction team in activities with emphasis on safety and quality, activities such as project turn-over package, project punch-list, construction redline review, and activities during commissioning
  • Support the Construction Manager and inspectors on site during construction
  • Support Information Management ensuring project records are appropriately tracked and filed
  • Gather and prepare Leave to Open documentation for technical review
  • Ensure that project quality objectives are met, activities include documenting non-conformances (NCR), opportunities for improvement (OFI), lessons learned and assisting quality audits
  • Transfer knowledge through acting as a role model, coaching and mentoring
  • Support and promote compression and measurement program and business unit's strategy, goals and objectives and align with implementation strategies, providing input while setting goals and objectives

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Civil, Electrical or any other related Engineering discipline)
  • Registered or eligible for registration as a professional engineer with both APEGA and EGBC
  • 4+ years of experience with natural gas compression facilities or similar equipment
  • Experience in engineering design, construction and commissioning and/or operations
  • Able to read and understand technical documents and drawings

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Canada Gas compressor station and meter station operations, design, regulations, design standards and specifications is preferred
  • Proven analytical skills and critical thinking skills with the ability to research, gather, analyze and synthesize multiple sources of information (technical, contracts and agreement, regulatory, etc.)
  • Manage time effectively and efficiently by handling multiple and competing demands and tasks
  • Self-motivated and able to work and problem solve with minimum supervision and direction
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills by demonstrating the ability to network and build/maintain relationships
  • Adhere to health, safety, environment and quality goals
  • Strong team orientation, demonstrating a high level of cooperation
  • Ability to handle rapidly shifting priorities and multiple projects concurrently, requiring resolution of complex problems in stressful situations
