Gulf Excavating Ltd. on Pender Island, BC, is looking for a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic and Operator with at least 4 years of combined experience and technical training in heavy equipment operation and repair. Work requires lifting up to 40 kg and handling heavy commercial truck tires. The successful candidate should be personable, have good judgment and be able to work independently, and be willing to get dirty doing required labour. Duties include the following:

• Drive trucks to transport equipment and aggregate materials.
• Operate heavy equipment, including skid-steer loaders, fork lifts, and excavators for projects such as excavating, landscaping, road-building, and assorted construction jobs.
• Regularly inspect equipment and heavy trucks to detect faults, and perform regular maintenance, including cleaning and lubrication.
• Conduct pre-operational checks on equipment to ensure optimum performance and safety.
• Do mechanical repairs on gas and diesel vehicles and equipment as needed, making adjustments and repairing or replacing defective parts, components, or systems.
• Perform related work as required.

Salary$36/hr, 40 Hrs/wk
Credentials• A valid Class 3 Driver's License.
• Heavy-Duty Equipment Technician Red Seal Endorsement, a Journeyman's certificate, a Heavy Equipment Operator Certificate, or equivalent credentials are strong assets but not required.
Education Requirements• Completion of secondary school.
Experience• Completion of at least 3 years of vocational training in heavy equipment repair, or at least 4 years of combined industry experience and technical training.
