The Board of Internal Economy of the Legislative Assembly of Saskatchewan is accepting applications for the position of Advocate for Children and Youth for the Province of Saskatchewan.

The Advocate, providing expert and strategic leadership for a team of twenty, serves as a voice for Saskatchewan children and youth and is committed to ensuring that their interests and well-being are respected and valued in the community, government practice, policy and legislation. In particular, the office of the Children and Youth Advocate serves the needs of children receiving care and services from any ministry or agency of the government of Saskatchewan.

Our candidate of choice will be a caring professional, who possesses extensive knowledge of child and youth issues, including knowledge and understanding of cultural issues pertaining to First Nations and Metis people, and the principles of reconciliation. This knowledge would typically be acquired through education and experience in the fields of Social Work, Social Sciences, Justice Services or Law. Your excellent networking, research and writing skills will ensure the Advocate for Children and Youth’s office is aware of emerging national and international trends in child and family services and will support your commitment to client service and the development of public education initiatives.

You will have recognized analytical and investigative ability coupled with proven judgment and decision making skills. Your excellent interpersonal, negotiation, conciliation, and mediation skills will enable a diplomatic and collaborative approach to problem solving and reflect your commitment to reconciliation. You will have strong leadership skills with demonstrated organizational, administrative and managerial abilities and familiarity with current government systems and programs. Established credibility in your career achievements and in your professional community will be essential in maintaining the public trust and in protecting the integrity of the work of this office.
