PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

 

CP is looking for a Co-op Engineer to fill a temporary position within the Friction Management department. We will expose Co-op Engineers to various engineering field experiences to learn various aspects of the railway business. You will be part of an engineering team that optimizes the wayside gauge face lubricators and top of rail friction modifiers in British Columbia.

 

Our Co-op positions are framed to provide you with a business relevant project that will allow you to independently manage your own area of responsibility, while receiving support from an assigned leader and mentor.  Projects are scoped in alignment with your term length, are based in the field (not at head office), and typically focus on process optimization or other continuous improvement initiatives.

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

 

  • Primary emphasis on quality assurance and controls;
  • Ensure through monitoring and verification that accepted organization standards are implemented;
  • Use computerized systems and interfaces.
  • Extensive use of information technologies in all aspects of the work. (Computer programming not required);
  • Participate in rail lubrication trials of new products on CP. Validate product output measurements, document rail condition, and compile information required for monthly reports.  
  • Participate in a new project to deliver grease and top of rail friction modifiers to CP’s fleet of trucks utilizing on site silo delivery methodology. Assist in design and evaluating prototype.  
  • Assist in maintenance activities in the field.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

 

  • Engineering Discipline in Civil Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical and Industrial backgrounds will be considered;
  • Minimum of 1-3 years of experience (co-op experience considered);
  • Knowledge of track maintenance practices would be an asset;
  • Strong problem solving skills and decision making skills;
  • Strong data analysis experience required;
  • Must be proficient with MS Office, experience with SAP would be an asset;
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills;
  • Strong leadership and technical skills;
  • Must have valid driver’s license;
  • Extensive traveling (100%) is required for this position. Full expenses are covered including flights, meals, hotels and rental cars.
