The Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science and Technology (iBEST) is a partnership between Ryerson and St. Michael’s Hospital that brings together Ryerson’s engineering and science strengths with St. Michael’s biomedical research and clinical expertise to translate research concepts into testable healthcare solutions. Located within the St. Michael’s Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science, iBEST’s access to biomedical, technological and clinical expertise allows its members and partners to identify challenges and rapidly pilot, modify and introduce biomedical discoveries and inventions to improve health.

The Opportunity

We are looking to hire an experienced Research Projects Manager to join the Dean’s Office in the Faculty of Science! The Research Projects Manager manages and oversees research projects and associated industry projects related to assigned areas within the Faculty of Science, from development to implementation stage. They plan, execute and implement all aspects of a project within agreed budget, specifications and timelines, and manage client-team relationships. In addition, the Research Projects Manager develops new project proposals, as required. The role primarily focuses on Biology and Chemistry disciplines with a secondary focus on Computer Sciences,Mathematics, and Physics disciplines. The Research Projects Manager supervises and coordinates the work of project resource staff who will assist with the project.

The Research Projects Manager also manages ongoing and new projects of iBEST. They will be an expert on all inter-institutional matters between Ryerson and iBEST including policies, protocols and find ways to adhere to regulations for both organizations. They also coordinate and plan events, manage large budgets, review the iBEST website and ensure content is up to date, oversee the branding initiative of the Keenan Research Centre for Biomedical Science, coordinating the Scientific Operations Committee (SOC) meetings and problem solving technical or administrative related issues from Ryerson iBEST students on site at St. Michaels. They will also organize large iBEST events such as the iBEST Symposium, by working with scientists and organizations from St. Michaels, Ryerson, and external partners (i.e. law firms, Biomedical zone, Stanford University etc.).

Work Location and Hours
This role will predominantly be located at the Institute for Biomedical Engineering, Science and Technology (iBEST) and periodically work on Ryerson campus.
Regular business hours from 9-5, Monday through Friday.
This role will work from home while Ryerson is operating on an essential services model due to COVID-19, until further notice.

This is not an IT Project Management position.

Qualification
Successful completion of an undergraduate degree in a science related field and a post-secondary education preferably in business administration or equivalent education.
Minimum of five (5) years in a project leadership role, preferably in business development for science-related projects, including facilitating academic research projects and technical teams and writing proposals for research-related initiatives is required.
Experience facilitating successful Canadian Institute for Health Research, Collaborative Health Research Projects, Canadian Cancer Society grant applications is an asset.
An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered. For example if you do not meet the education required and exceed the experience requirement, you are encouraged to apply.
Project management experience from planning to implementation and delivery, including status reporting, outlining anticipated issues and risks, ensuring available funding and negotiating contracts.
Strong financial and business management skills with the ability to draft budget proposals, forecast expenses and monitor relevant research and contract accounts.
Strong leadership, management and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build and motivate teams, and inspire members to innovate.
Knowledge and familiarity with the research funding landscape within Canada.
Solid written and verbal communication skills to write proposals and support letters, deliver presentations.
Demonstrated ability to independently problem solve and make decisions with sound judgement.
Event management and marketing skills. Experience in event planning is an asset.
Proficiency in MS Office (Word and Excel), and Google Suite (Gmail, Drive, Calendar, Docs, Sheets, etc) and related project management software.
