Description
Company
The Vancouver Public Library (VPL) is the third largest public library system in Canada, with 800 staff members offering services at 21 branches across the city. VPL values a diverse workforce which represents the vibrant community we so proudly service. Consider joining our committed team of staff and being part of an innovative, inclusive, and rewarding workplace.

The Vancouver Public Library is looking for eight curious, friendly people aged 15-30 for a three-month, full-time, paid digital internship. This program is funded by the Government of Canada through Computers for Success Canada (CFSC-OPEC) and the Computers for Schools Plus (CFS+) Interns program. Interns will work alongside experienced library staff to deliver excellent digital library services and programs to the public.

The Vancouver Public Library aims to reflect our diverse community in the people we hire. We strongly encourage applications from candidates who identify as IBPoC (Indigenous, Black or People of Colour), people who identify as LGBTQA2+, official language minorities, and people with disabilities. You can choose to tell us if you are a member of these communities in your application, but it is not required.

We are committed to an inclusive, barrier-free selection process and work environment. If you need an accommodation for your interview or work, let us know. We will always treat this information confidentially.

There are positions available in the Digital Services, Children’s and Teen Services, Marketing and Communications, and Programming and Learning departments. Each role has a different focus, and you can apply for any and all that interest you.

WE ARE
We are the busiest public library in Canada, with a workforce spread across 21 locations throughout Vancouver. We support our community through programs, services, and collections that promote literacy, learning, and a love of reading. As a 21st Century library system, we balance providing digital connectivity with offering traditional community spaces and collections. We continually seek to address societal challenges of bridging the digital divide and addressing social isolation.

ARE YOU
Are you aged 15-30, with computer and/or social media skills, and a desire to work in a team environment? Do you enjoy working with people? Are you interested in engaging with others from diverse social, cultural, and economic backgrounds? Work or volunteer experience in these areas is an asset. Ideally, you will also have some experience or education related to the position you express interest in. When you submit your application, please tell us how your skills and interest are a fit for any of the internships listed below and we will do our best to match you with that opportunity.
