A rewarding leadership opportunity for an operational management professional to contribute to effective natural resource management

The Ministry of Forests, Lands, Natural Resource Operations and Rural Development is the Province’s agency responsible for land and resource management in BC, which includes the protection of the Province’s archaeological and heritage resources. Operating on a provincial land base of over 94 million hectares, the Ministry ensures the sustainable management of forest, wildlife, water and other land based resources; works with Indigenous and rural communities to strengthen and diversify their economies; and, supports activities that provide environmental, economic, cultural and social benefits. The Ministry is responsible for wildfire management and facilitates safe public access to a wide range of recreational activities such as hunting, fishing, and access to BC’s wilderness and backcountry. The Ministry oversees policy development, operational management, and implementation, and administers all or part of over 60 statutes and associated regulations.

As the Resource Manager for the South Island Natural Resource District, you will be a member of a professional team that is responsible for natural resource management or infrastructure development (for example, land, water, and forest management). You will also be accountable for managing the delivery of district wide operations consistent with Ministry priorities and objectives and legislative requirements.

Additionally, in this role you will have considerable independence and autonomy within a collaborative environment, leading a diverse, high performing team comprised of technical, administrative, and professional staff. Qualifications for this role include:

• Degree, diploma, certification or equivalent in the natural resource management or business/public administration, or minimum 5 years of a combination of education, training and experience.
• Minimum of 3 years of recent experience (within the last 5 years) in:
o the operational management of natural resources; preference may be given to candidates with recent experience in land, forest or water authorizations and First Nation consultation;
o leading and coaching multi-disciplinary teams; and,
o developing and maintaining working relationships and resolving problems with stakeholders in natural resource management and/or infrastructure development.
• Valid Class 5 BC Driver’s Licence (or equivalent).
