 PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

To safely maintain railway track within a specific territory in accordance with Transport Canada regulations and the policies of Canadian Pacific.

 

  POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Track maintenance and renewal work;
  • Moderate to heavy physical labour such as; Pulling track spikes, applying rail anchors, shoveling crushed rock;
  • Use of hand tools and small machines, may be called upon to operate large track renewal equipment;
  • Standing, bending, and lifting for long periods of time;
  • Ability to lift tools and equipment of 50lbs or greater on a regular basis;
  • Repetitive tasks;
  • Comply with safety rules and regulations. Safety is critical when working around heavy moving equipment in a high risk environment;
  • Available to respond to emergent situations 24/7;
  • Work can be seasonal and employees may be laid off at the end of a work season. Employees will be called back as needed (in seniority order).

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School diploma or GED equivalent;
  • A safety-oriented work ethic supported by experience within the labour industry;
  • Previous experience in track maintenance or as a machine operator would be beneficial;
  • Valid Class 3 license or in the process of obtaining one would be preferred;
  • Mechanical or welding experience is desirable;
  • Must be able to perform physically strenuous work outdoors in all types of weather;
  • Ability to read and understand safety rules and regulations, and perform tasks in accordance with those rules;
  • Good written and verbal communication skills are essential;
  • Familiar with shift work schedule, which may change based on operational needs and requirements or per collective agreement;
  • Available to travel and be away from home if required;
  • Bilingual is preferred (English & French);
  • Must live within 80 kms of Lac Megantic, QC.
