PURPOSE OF THE POSITION:

  • To provide technical support and assistance to Division ES Managers in prioritizing capital and maintenance work, performing field inspections and developing cost estimates;
  • Execute work as assigned by Division Engineer and is responsible for project submissions, administration of contracts as well as maintenance of records;
  • Professional oversight and assists in the management of Division engineering projects of varying magnitude involving track, structures and Signals & Communications. 

 

POSITION ACCOUNTABILITIES:

  • Generate project submissions for Division Capital and SMA projects involving Track, Structures and Signals & Communications;
  • Plan and order material as assigned for projects;
  • Provide technical support and manages execution for Division Managers for the cost effective management of projects such as surfacing, crossings, structures, drainage and weed mowing, including conducting field inspections and measurements;
  • Assist in the preparation of cost estimates (including 3rd parties) and carry out field surveying required for the execution of the proposed work and updating of records;
  • Administer contracts, including safety orientation, field inspection and supervision of contract work on various projects on the Division; 
  • Coordinate work activities with internal and external departments and customers to ensure safe, cost-effective execution of projects and programmed maintenance work;
  • Manages the delivery and logistics of ballast for project or maintenance work;
  • Manage Division projects within the budgeted allotment and assist Budget Specialist in monitoring Capital and Expense expenditures that fall under the jurisdiction of the Division;
  • Monitor status of OCS cars on the Division and assists managers in ensuring timely unloading and release of OCS cars;
  • Handle customer / public complaints, investigate problem areas, carry out site inspections and recommend remedial action to the engineering maintenance team.

 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s degree – Engineering (Civil, Mechanical, or Industrial background) or the equivalent in combined education and demonstrated work experience;
  • P Eng designation or previous experience working as Engineer-in-Training in province/state of residence;
  • Minimum 3 years’ experience in field based and/or engineering environment;
  • Working knowledge of SAP, modern spreadsheet and scheduling software would be an asset;
  • Capability to develop and manage a project plan/schedule;
  • Ability to simultaneously manage priorities and projects to ensure delivery of position specific accountabilities;
  • People leadership;
  • Ability to influence functional and cross functional co-managers;
  • Ability to work with people with integrity;
  • Must have valid driver's license;
  • Ability to respond to emergencies any time of day (24/7);
  • Ability to travel for work.
