The opportunity

As part of the Canada Gas Operations team you’ll apply your critical thinking and technical skills to keep our natural gas compressor stations, measurement stations, and pipeline assets operating safely and reliably. Our Canadian Natural Gas Pipelines business includes over 43,000 kms of existing pipeline, 120 compressor stations and approximately 1,500 measurement stations across Canada.

Based out of Fort St. John, British Columbia the Area Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant, reliable operations and maintenance of TC Energy’s Gas Assets primarily located throughout North East, British Columbia. The Area Manager will report to the Director of the Wildrose Region in the Canadian Gas organization.


What you’ll do
As Area Manager you are responsible to:
• Provide leadership to continuously improve your teams’ business performance in terms of health, safety and environment, regulatory compliance, reliability and productivity
• Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, provincial, and local regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures pertaining to operations and maintenance
• Ensure the effective turnover to operations of new capital projects
• Understand and manage facility risks, reliability and performance
• Understand and implement Canada Gas Operations Strategies
• Effectively manage all resources including people, finances, materials and time to ensure maximum efficiency in planning, forecasting, and implementation
• Develop and foster an environment which actively enables and encourages employee innovation, continuous improvement, and commitment to operational excellence
• Actively participate in the development of goals and objectives from Region to Area level and lead the efforts to achieve these goals in the Area
• Manage Operations and Maintenance contracts, understand Commercial Agreements and Asset Management Plans
• Effectively work and interact with peers to optimize regional results and contribute to company success
• Ensure that TC Energy has a positive and visible image in the communities within the Area and actively engage with key Stakeholders
• Manage and coordinate emergency response with a requirement to be on-call to respond to emergency situations

 

As a leader in Field Operations, you will be expected to:

• Work collaboratively to establish the Region's strategies, goals, and business plan
• Commit to the execution of the Region's key priorities of excellence in the areas of Safety, Compliance, Reliability, Productivity and Culture
• Represent the company and foster critical partnerships both internally and externally
• Be a champion for continuous improvement and change management

 

Minimum Qualifications
• Successful completion of a bachelor’s degree or Diploma in a relevant field of study
• Ten years of relevant work experience; an equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered
• An excellent track record of development and execution of plans
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills combined with the ability to utilize those skill during interactions with peers, employees, internal and external customers, and community groups
• Experience with conflict resolution and problem-solving tools and processes
• Experience in effective resource allocation and utilization in the financial, people and procurement areas
• Demonstrated leadership in the health, safety, and environment, change management, employee development, performance management, and team building areas

 

Preferred Qualifications
• Knowledge and familiarity with TC Energy's business vision, strategies, practices, processes and systems
• Related experience preferably in a managerial or leadership type setting is an asset
• Knowledge of TC Energy's Leadership competencies and a commitment to career development

 

This position requires candidates to:
• Successfully complete pre-employment medical screening including drug and alcohol testing
• Drive a motor vehicle - following a conditional offer of employment, the Company will check the motor vehicle records of any job applicant when driving is an essential job function
• Travel to and from sites to support facilities during outages and as required - this varies year to year based on planned outages (travel approximately 50% per month)
