Millbrook First Nation is a Mi'kmaq community located within the town of Truro, positioned in the hub of Nova Scotia. Millbrook First Nation also has reserve land in Beaver Dam, Sheet Harbour, Dartmouth, and Cole Harbour, along with other privately owned lands near Truro and Sheet Harbour.

Using its geographic location, Millbrook First Nation has thrived in numerous economic development endeavours within the past decade. Economic development projects include but are not limited to the construction of the Truro, Millbrook Power Centre, residential apartment buildings and a gaming centre located in Cole Harbour, and a wharf in Sheet Harbour.

This Moment, This Position
Millbrook First Nation is seeking an experienced and trauma-informed Mental Wellness Coordinator (MWC) to join their team.
Under the direct supervision of the Director of Health Services, the Mental Wellness Coordinator will oversee and coordinate mental health and addictions services in Millbrook and provide direct counselling to adults in the community.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES
The Mental Wellness Coordinator will:

Develop, coordinate and evaluate mental health and addictions programs/services in Millbrook.
Develop crisis response protocols in the community and identify training opportunities as needed.
Facilitate community engagement on mental wellness needs of the community and document the knowledge gathered from this engagement.
Engage in trauma-informed, collaborative person and family-centred care focused on intervention, treatment and maintenance.
Offer after-hours and weekend/holidays support as needed in crisis situations.
Encourage clients to be active participants in treatment (individual and group) and in maintaining mental wellness.
Plan and administer culturally relevant and holistic activities and treatment to clients both individually or in group/peer settings.
Monitor clients' treatment progress and recommend interventions as needed.
Act as a client advocate to coordinate required mental health and addictions services.
Work with other staff to address crisis situations (individual and community-based).
Work with other organizations/programs to provide mental health and addictions services to the community.
Act in a professional and ethical manner, following all recognized codes of ethics, standards, legislation, and guidelines relevant to clinical practice and the profession.
Complete annual training required for a position such as crisis intervention training.
Maintain confidentiality of records relating to clients and treatment plans at all times.
Other related duties as assigned by the direct supervisor.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Social Work, Educational Counselling, Clinical Psychology, Nursing or comparable degree with strong clinical skills and experience.
Currently registered or eligible to be registered with respective professional association.
Minimum two years related experience in providing a range of community-based mental health services or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
A trauma-informed approach is an asset.
Program development, implementation and evaluation experience.
Frontline experience in client support is preferred.
Preference will be provided to candidates with prior experience with First Nations, especially in community-based settings, particularly in the area of mental health and substance use challenges.
Previous project/program coordination and counselling experience.

SKILLS
An understanding of peer support and the value of peer-led programming (completion of peer support training preferred).
Demonstrated knowledge and skills of advocacy, support navigation, and mental health recovery principles.
Knowledge in providing culturally-informed, non-judgemental client and family-centred care.
Excellent facilitation skills, including the ability to carry out workshops, community engagements, and public presentations.
Computer skills - Microsoft Office Suite, Outlook Calendar, and Zoom.
Current Level 1 First Aid and CPR certification (or willingness to complete it).
Mental Health First Aid (or willingness to complete it).
Criminal Record clearance will be required.
Valid driver's license and use of a reliable vehicle during working hours.
Knowledge and skills of advocacy, empowerment, and mental health recovery principles.

The successful candidate will be required to obtain or upgrade the following certifications: - Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector) - Child Abuse Registry - First Aid/Level C CPR

THE PACKAGE
Salary: $55,000 - $65,000 (Range negotiable based on experience)
Pension plan and Benefits

The successful candidate will be required to work from 9:00 am to 4:30 pm Mon- Thur, and 9:00 am to 4:00 pm Friday (Occasionally outside of these hours if the need arises).
Location: Millbrook, Nova Scotia
