| Position is located at the Labrador Campus of Memorial University in Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador Three Year Contractual Position, subject to renewal The Labrador Campus is the newest campus of Memorial University, established in January 2022. The Labrador Campus is situated on the homelands of the Innu and Inuit of Labrador and, through governance structures and foundational principles, is growing in partnership with the Innu Nation, the Nunatsiavut Government, and the NunatuKavut Community Council to create a place-based, Northern-focused, and Indigenous-led campus in Labrador. Home to the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies and the Pye Centre for Northern Boreal Food Systems, the Labrador Campus is a vibrant centre for Northern-focused, Northern-inspired, and Northern-led research, education, and community partnerships. As part of this exciting and historic transformation, the Labrador Campus is developing undergraduate, graduate, and post-graduate degrees, diplomas, certificates, and professional development learning opportunities, expanding our research activities, developing new infrastructure, and growing our team. The Labrador Campus maintains a library and archive, with a collection of over 5,000 published books, journals, videos, music, and other items, as well as over 11,000 photographs, over 150 hours of audio recordings, and over 750 hours of video. Our collection has a particular focus on Labrador, Northern, and Indigenous content, and is unique among the Memorial University Library System. Our library and archive has strong community connections and partnerships, and we are proud to work to preserve and promote Labrador, Northern, and Indigenous content. As part of the new development of the Labrador Campus, we are growing the physical footprint of our library and archive in our new Campus facilities, expanding our collections, developing diverse public service and student-focused library programming, with a particular focus on Northern and Indigenous collections and resources, and increasing our library and archive research. We are looking for an innovative, enthusiastic, and user-focused Labrador Campus Public Services Librarian to join our growing team and lead the growth and development of a Northern-based and Northern-focused library and archive, while contributing to student success and community partnerships in a dynamic Northern- and Indigenous-led university environment. DUTIES: This position jointly reports to the Dean of the School of Arctic and Subarctic Studies, Labrador Campus and the Dean of Libraries at Memorial University. Duties include: supporting the growth, development, and maintenance of the Labrador Campus library and archive in its new location; providing reference services to undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and the public; designing and delivering information literacy instruction both in-person and virtually for diverse audiences; collection development; copyright assistance; assessing the potential use and implementation of emerging technologies within the Labrador Campus Library; working collaboratively with Archives & Special Collections, and other archives at Memorial University; and outreach and engagement activities and partnership building, particularly with Indigenous groups, organizations, and governments. The Public Services Librarian, Labrador campus will also participate in academic service, for example by serving on Memorial University Libraries, Labrador Campus, and/or university-wide committees and/or working groups; service to professional organizations and/or associations; and/or community service related to their areas of expertise. Finally, the successful candidate will engage in scholarly activities such as research, scholarship and/or creative outputs. QUALIFICATIONS: Essential: An MLIS degree or equivalent from an ALA accredited institution; excellent interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work collaboratively as part of a team; and a demonstrated ability to deliver a high-level of customer service. Desirable: Experience working with Northern and Indigenous collections and through partnerships with diverse Indigenous and community groups; experience working in an academic library setting and/or delivering information literacy instruction; familiarity with archival management practices; familiarity with the Copyright Act as it applies within libraries, archives, and educational institutions; experience with web editing and development; experience with Indigenization of library systems, materials, and resources. Memorial offers this position, as part of the bargaining unit, with standard academic benefits including provision of time for research and professional development.
