Western now invites applications and nominations for the position of  Director and Controller, Financial Services (“Controller”).

Reporting to the Associate Vice-President, Financial Services, the Director and Controller, Financial Services is responsible for overseeing the financial accounting and control system for the University. The Controller will provide timely and accurate financial reporting, analysis, and advice to the University community and its leadership. As part of the Financial Services senior management team, the Controller also establishes and implements strategic objectives and leads a high performing corporate accounting team. The Controller acts as the primary liaison with the external auditors and government agencies relating to financial reports, inquiries and audits.

Candidates must hold an undergraduate degree and the Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA) designation in good standing; a Master’s level degree is considered an asset. This appointment calls for candidates who have successfully worked in a sophisticated and decentralized environment, who possess leadership and management experience, and have a proven track record in identifying, monitoring and mitigating financial risk for an institution. Experience with Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) software, of control frameworks and proper control procedures, and of tax law including taxable benefits and indirect taxes as they apply to not for profit entities are all required. Candidates must also be exceptional communicators with the ability to simplify and convey complex narratives through verbal, written, or visual reporting to various stakeholders, including Western’s executive management and its Board of Governors.
