Canada Excellence Research Chair - Faculty of Science & Faculty of Engineering The Faculties of Science and of Engineering at McMaster University are seeking outstanding researchers from the general area of radiochemistry and radiopharmaceutical sciences for consideration as Canada Excellence Research Chairs (CERC) nominees. McMaster University is home to a renowned radiopharmaceutical research program, supported by exceptional staff and state-of-the-art infrastructure. Key assets include a dedicated high-level radiation research facility, a cyclotron, and cutting-edge radiopharmaceutical laboratories. The University also operates Canada’s most powerful research reactor and the nation’s only major neutron source. Among McMaster’s specialized research centers is the Centre for Probe Development and Commercialization (CPDC), recognized for its success in advancing radiopharmaceuticals from research to clinical application. Notable achievements include the creation of thriving spinout companies like Fusion Pharmaceuticals Inc., now publicly traded and recently acquired by a leading pharmaceutical firm. Read more in this Brighter World article. The CERC program offers eligible Canadian, degree-granting institutions an opportunity to establish research chairs with award values of $1 million per year or $500 thousand per year for eight years in areas that align with the Government of Canada’s science, technology and innovation priorities. Nominees must be full professors or associate professors expected to be promoted to full professor within one or two years of the nomination. Alternatively, if they come from outside the academic sector, nominees must possess the qualifications necessary to be appointed at these levels. All candidates to have completed a PhD. Please note that the PhD requirement for the CERC chair is a requirement of the University and not a CERC program requirement. Researchers who hold a full-time academic appointment at a Canadian institution are eligible to be nominated; however, they may not be nominated by the institution at which they currently hold their appointment. If an institution nominates a researcher who is currently at a Canadian institution, the institution must demonstrate the net benefit to the country in moving the researcher from one Canadian institution to another. Please consult the Canada Excellence Research Program website for full program information, including further details on eligibility criteria.
