Royal Roads University is seeking applications for a one year limited term position to oversee and coordinate the development of an under-graduate micro credential (4 courses) in the new Indigenous Environmental Leadership program. The program will be developed for the Canadian Centre for Environmental Education, a partnership with ECO Canada that delivers the Bachelor and Master's degrees in Environmental Practice and the Graduate Certificate in Science and Policy of Climate Change in the School of Environment and Sustainability. We are seeking Indigenous scholars to fill this one year contract position. (Full-time, March 2022 to March 2023). The School of Environment and Sustainability invites applications from Indigenous scholars who maintain ties to their ancestors and families through regular connection to their traditional culture(s) and who are interested in developing the new undergraduate credential in Indigenous Environmental Leadership. Successful candidates may also wish to design and teach one or more of the four courses offered for the credential. ROYAL ROADS' COMMITMENT TO INDIGENOUS PEOPLES Based on broad community consultation, including input from local Chiefs and our Heron People Circle members, a planning framework for delivering on our commitment to Indigenous Peoples was established in 2019 that includes a set of principles and six core elements. The six core elements all have direct connection to learning, teaching and research. Indigenous Environmental Leadership is a new undergraduate program at Royal Roads University designed to prepare Indigenous learners to identify and address environmental issues in their Nations and communities. The four online courses investigate environmental issues in Indigenous communities in Canada and approaches to restoring and maintaining environmental quality and addressing accelerating problems such as climate change and biodiversity loss. The program focuses on integrated environmental planning and intersections with sustainable economic and social development. The program provides pathways to further post-secondary education at both the Bachelor and Master's levels, potentially leading to the Bachelor of Environmental Practice and the Masters of Environmental Practice. Graduates will become environmental leaders in their Nations and communities. The Indigenous Environmental Leadership program is offered in partnership with ECO Canada and the School of Environment and Sustainability at Royal Roads and provides graduates of ECO Canada's BEAHR program with pathways to environmental credentials and professional certification. The Program is designed and taught by Indigenous scholars and is based on Indigenous science and knowledge as well as Indigenous values and laws. An advisory board made up of Indigenous scholars, elders, knowledge keepers, leaders and practitioners as well as local advisors from learners' communities will oversee the development and implementation of the program.
