Teaching Track Faculty Appointment

The School of Nursing is accepting applications for a teaching-track appointment at the rank of Assistant Professor, to teach in the School’s undergraduate BScN program, as part of our renowned BScN science team, and our graduate nursing programs. The appointment will begin on July 1, 2025. 

Teaching-track professors in the School are expected to have a strong background in educational scholarship and pedagogy. They are engaged in activities such as curriculum development and evaluation, including formal program review processes; take a leading role in mentoring; and conduct research exploring critical elements of nursing education, including competency assessment.  Qualified candidates should be committed to fostering diverse and inclusive environments as well as to promoting experiential learning. 

About the School of Nursing 

One of three professional schools within McMaster University’s Faculty of Health Sciences, the School of Nursing offers undergraduate and graduate programs. As a member of a larger Faculty, the School of Nursing offers opportunities for interprofessional education and research. For over 75 years, the School has delivered nursing education programs that have developed generations of professional nurses who are critical thinkers and contribute to nursing practice, research, education, policy, and administration. The BScN program streams provide undergraduate nursing education to approximately 2,000 students annually. The School offers students three streams of BScN study: 1) a four-year Basic stream, 2) a 20-month Accelerated stream, and 3) a three-year post-RPN stream as well as Nurse Practitioner programs at the graduate level.

Key Responsibilities 

• The applicant will be responsible for teaching in the School's nursing education programs. We are seeking expertise in the following courses: 

• Human Biochemistry  

• Integrated Pathophysiology for Nursing 

• Human Anatomy & Physiology 

• Introduction to Statistics for Nursing 

• Integrated Biological Bases of Nursing Practice 

• Teaching responsibilities will include delivery of course content, overseeing the administrative components of the course, (e.g., grading and completing student evaluation measures, holding office hours, and managing student accommodations).  

• Contributing to the academic mission at the university through teaching and learning, educational scholarship, service to the School, the Faculty, and the University. 

• Engaging in exceptional teaching practice, providing nursing students with effective learning opportunities across the School’s full suite of educational programs. Teaching will be primarily in the undergraduate BScN programs.   

• Developing and evaluating curriculum, learning resources, and teaching materials to support student success. 

Required Qualifications 

• PhD degree required (Medical Science, Science, Biochemistry, Nursing or Health related field).  

• Demonstrated excellence in university level teaching in a range of learning contexts (classroom, virtual platform).  

• Expertise teaching health sciences, and sciences preferred. 

• Experience in course design, curriculum development and competency assessment using evidence-based educational principles. 

• Experience in educational research and scholarship an asset. 

• Strong communication skills.
