We are currently accepting applications for the role of Instructor - Justice Studies, Aboriginal Focus, for Bow Valley College's School of Community Studies (Continuous). Instructors in Justice Studies are responsible for working with and supporting other instructors in a cohesive team environment, providing instruction to learners, evaluating learner’s progress, designing and developing curriculum and instructional materials, and supporting learners in meeting the learning outcomes of their course and program. Provides Quality Courses in Programs Areas •Prepare and updates course syllabus/outline and content. •Creates lesson plans. •Develops and updates curriculum, manuals and guides as required. •Creates, reviews and marks learner activities, assignments and/or exams. •Submits grades to Program Chair. •Instructs courses as necessary. •Selects textbooks and resources for each course. •Provides resource materials to support course delivery. •Maintains inventory for classroom materials and supplies, etc. •As necessary, works with Program Chair to process transfer credit requests and process intakes. Provides a Positive Learning Experience for Learners •Meets with learners regarding any academic issues. •Identifies areas of concerns and refer to the Program Chair if follow up is necessary. •Refers any issues to Program Chairs if more intervention is required. •Acts as a liaison between learners and other College contacts/departments and if necessary make referrals for additional resources as required. •Ensures that any special learner accommodations are met (i.e. revise course load, vision impairments, hearing impairments, testing, etc.). •If applicable, nominates and refers learners for various awards and scholarships; this may include completing any necessary forms and applications. •Participates in graduation events. Builds and Maintains Relationship with Internal and External Stakeholders and Promote the Department and the College •Meets with industry stakeholders and sit on Advisory Committees. •Attends external community meetings as required. •In the absence of Learner Recruitment Specialist, conduct and/or attends various community events (i.e. Career Fairs, High School Presentations, etc.) Other Duties /Special Projects •Engages in professional opportunities. •Ability and willingness to participate in applied research. •Other duties as assigned. | |

| Credentials | •Bachelor’s Degree - Related Field – (i.e. Adult Education, Criminal Justice, or similar) required. |
| Education Requirements | Minimum Requirements •Bachelor’s Degree - Related Field – (i.e. Adult Education, Criminal Justice, or similar) required. •5 years of direct industry-related field experience. •Recent and relevant occupational experience in teaching and learning at a post-secondary level. •An equivalent combination of directly related education and experience may be considered. •Preferred occupational experience would include experience working directly in a justice related environment and/ or providing support services that are culturally relevant and that recognize the rich cultural background and unique needs of Indigenous communities •Extensive personal knowledge and first-hand experience of Indigenous communities Preferred •Master’s Degree-Related Field– (i.e. Adult Education, Criminal Justice, or similar) preferred. •Experienced educator and instructor at a post-secondary level. •Working in a career within justice. •Practitioner of adult learning principles. •Excellent Communication. •Teaching experience. •Curriculum development an asset. •Industry relationship an asset. •Familiarity with AN LMS (e.g. D2L) an asset. |
