Post Doctoral Fellow Position – Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation McMaster University, Hamilton Health Sciences and St Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton Reports to: Dr. Nora Cullen Division Director, PM&R, Dept of Medicine Professor of Medicine, McMaster University Chief PM&R HHS and St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilotn Position Objectives
- Develop and execute clinical research and knowledge translation studies about functional recovery after critical illness or injury in the Division of PM&R under the academic supervision of Dr. Nora Cullen
- Interact with a multidisciplinary team, including research scientists, at Hamilton Health Sciences, St Joseph’s Hamilton and McMaster University and national and international academic leaders
- Provide strong project management skills
- participate in knowledge exchange with collaborators and key stakeholders
Primary Responsibilities Project Management and Leadership Development: - Organize and lead meetings with research team
- Assist with supervising residents, undergraduate and graduate students who are doing research in the Division of PM&R
- Plan and oversee operations of research projects including submission of REB approval request, execution of study, data collection and analysis, manuscript writing and submission
- Work on a CIHR funded project about rehabilitation following disability
Data Analysis Skills: - Prepare data and conduct data analyses
- Communicate results of statistical analyses
- Prepare figures and tables to display analyses and results
Grantsmanship: - Develop grantsmanship and protocol development skills by taking a leadership role in the development and submission of grant proposals and budgets for government and non-government funding agencies
- Actively seek grant opportunities (e.g. from the Canadian Institutes of Health Research, Canadian Frailty Network, Alzheimer Society, etc.)
- Correspond with Health Research services at McMaster University
Knowledge Translation: - Compose manuscripts and abstracts for conferences and prepare reports
- Develop and present posters and oral presentations
- Lead meetings with collaborators, stakeholders and participants to communicate study results
Required Qualifications: - PhD in Epidemiology, Public Health, Kinesiology, Nursing or Rehabilitation Sciences
- Experience in the field of rehabilitation or clinical research
- Excellent computer skills and experience with data management and the graphing of data
- Experience with data analysis software such as SPSS or SAS
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written
- Ability to work independently
