Indigenous Relations Consultant

At SGI, we are focused on an exciting future involving growth, change and transformation. We are seeking a dynamic, energetic, and passionate Indigenous Relations Consultant to join our Corporate Auto Fund team in Regina OR Saskatoon; other locations in Saskatchewan may be considered.
In early 2020, SGI became one of the first signatories of the Saskatchewan Chamber of Commerce's Indigenous Engagement Charter, outlining our commitment to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission (TRC) Calls to Action. As SGI advances its commitments to Indigenous communities and peoples, a new Consultant position has been created to support the development and implementation of the Indigenous partnership strategy for all Auto Fund functions (excluding Claims) to enhance and contribute to customer and partner experience, traffic safety promotion, and efficient operations. The position will play a critical role supporting Human Resources in the development and implementation of Indigenous projects and initiatives as it relates to building SGI's workforce and advancing diversity, equity, and inclusion at SGI.

Reporting to the Director, Indigenous Relations you will have an active role in SGI's response to the Truth and Reconciliation Commission report, contribute to the strategic alignment of the Indigenous Engagement Charter, and supports the Crown Indigenous Engagement Committee priorities.

Here's the impact you'll make and what we'll accomplish together:

- Build and maintain effective relationships with Auto Fund Indigenous partners and stakeholders to increase operational effectiveness and alignment to strategic direction. Work collaboratively with Auto Fund departments to strengthen Indigenous partner relationships, resolve issues, and provide recommendations to assist the Auto Fund in achieving its corporate objectives.
- As an SGI brand representative, you will develop and maintain external partnerships with post-secondary institutions, community groups, and networks to promote SGI as an employer of choice.
- Supports SGI in its efforts to develop a diverse and inclusive workforce by providing advice and support on training and learning opportunities, HR policy/program changes, and recruitment and retention strategies.
- Acts as a member of the Indigenous Engagement Steering Committee and lead the Indigenous Employee Advisory Committee.
- Coordinates, plans, leads, and participates in consultations with internal and external Indigenous stakeholders.
- Identifies and proposes strategies and actions to encourage leaders to adopt practices that promote openness and acceptance to advance Indigenous Peoples.
- Assists the Director, Indigenous Relations in researching and gathering information on prevalent Indigenous issues and supporting the setup and execution of consultations and initiatives with Indigenous partners and communities.
- Prepares, organizes, and attends partner training, seminars, and conferences, including developing and/or delivering presentations.

Here's what we're looking for:
Candidates must bring the education and experience to succeed in this unique opportunity. We are looking for candidates who have a four-year degree in a relevant field of study such as Indigenous Studies, Business, Communications or Community Development. Candidates should have at least five years' experience in Indigenous community engagement, stakeholder relations and/or program delivery. Strong understanding of First Nations and Metis issues with the ability to provide cultural interpretation and direction to protocols, traditions, values, beliefs, and cultural and legal distinctions.

Salary$75,552 - $100,728 per year
