The opportunity

 

The Canada Gas Projects Engineering department is seeking an Electrical Engineer-in-Training to join the team, reporting to the Manager of Compression Engineering. This team is responsible for engineering oversight of capacity-expansion compression stations projects across the Canada Gas line of business. This involves providing internal engineering support throughout the project lifecycle (scoping, preliminary engineering, detailed engineering and construction) to ensure TC Energy’s specifications and requirements are met. Members of the Compression Engineering team are a key component of the overall project execution teams, helping ensure our projects are successfully delivered to meet our commercial and operational needs. 

 

As an Electrical EIT, your responsibility will be to operate as the internal engineering layer during compression project execution. This encompasses both technical understanding and review of the 3rd party engineering work, along with issue management and resolution throughout the lifecycle of the project. This role is technical in nature but demands excellent communication skills to manage issues between 3rd parties and stakeholders throughout TC Energy.

 

 

What you’ll do

 

There is a significant opportunity for meaningful work within compression projects. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Design oversight of 3rd party engineering service providers, ensuring compliance to company specification and standards
  • Provide interpretation of specifications and standards to support detailed design and construction
  • Support project procurement process
  • Technical support for construction
  • Engineering input to regulatory applications

 

 

Minimum qualifications
 

  • Must have completed of Bachelor’s Degree Program in Engineering, Applied Science or equivalent degree (as recognized by a Canadian Provincial Association of Professional Engineers, such as APEGA), with a major in electrical engineering
  • Minimum of 2 year of engineering-related work experience, not including co-op or internship work terms
  • Registration with APEGA as an Engineer-in-Training
  • Have and maintain a valid driver's license and provide a driver's abstract for review
  • Exhibit a safety mindset, in a professional and personal setting

  • Legally entitled to work in Canada by way of Canadian Citizenship, Permanent Residency or a valid work permit


 

Preferred qualifications
 

  • Business acumen related to TC Energy’s energy and pipeline businesses is considered an asset
  • Knowledge of natural gas pipelines and compressor station design, codes, standards, and specifications
  • Some experience in reading and understanding electrical & controls discipline drawings including single line diagrams, control architecture, etc.
  • Exposure to engineering design process, including cross-discipline knowledge
  • Some experience with gas facilities electrical and control systems including switchgear, transfers switches, low voltage distribution, arc flash studies, control panel design, instrumentation, PLC system layout, HMI systems, unit control interface, gensets, offsite fabrication, onsite commissioning.
  • Knowledge of Canadian Electrical Code
  • Aptitude for development of leadership, project management and decision-making skills are an asset
  • Team player with the ability to collaborate and interact with other groups
  • Excellent presentation, negotiation, interpersonal and communication skills (written and verbal)
  • Flexible and adaptable to change
  • Positive attitude rooted in our core values of Safety, Integrity, Collaboration and Responsibility


This position is a part of the Engineer-in-Training Rotational Program. This role will be primarily based in the office in Calgary with occasional travel to field locations.
