Ministry of Forests Multiple Locations Planning Officer (Wildfire Resiliency) The BC Wildfire Service is responsible for managing wildfire response and planning for fire on the landscape to mitigate impacts to communities, values at risk, and encourage sustainable, healthy, and resilient ecosystems. Wildfire Resiliency is a key land management tool that can be used to achieve a range of objectives, including values management for response, wildfire risk reduction, and ecosystem restoration. As the Planning Officer, you will work in partnership with organizations, government agencies, stakeholders and partners to develop and implement the planning foundation for the program. This includes coordinating initiatives to integrate Wildfire Resiliency into government's natural resource management planning framework (e.g., modernized land use planning, forest landscape planning, fire management, wildfire risk reduction tactical planning). To be successful in the role, you will be an effective communicator and collaborator, you will develop strategic partnerships and negotiate key components of projects with partners. Additionally, you will possess excellent interpersonal and written communication skills and be highly skilled at project direction, management and leadership. Qualifications for this role include: - Registered, or immediately eligible for registration, as a fully licensed professional with the British Columbia professional association as required by the specialty area (i.e. Association of Forest Professionals, Institute of Agrologists, Association of Professional Engineers & Geoscientists). Preference may be given to Registered Professional Foresters. Note: Immediately eligible for registration is defined as being able to transfer a current membership from an applicable jurisdiction to the BC association within six (6) months of employment. Confirmation of registration/eligibility is required before an offer of employment can be made. - A Technical Diploma in a natural resource management related field (e.g., Forestry, Geography, or Natural Resource Management), or an equivalent combination of education/training; plus, 2 or more years' experience working in a natural resource discipline. - Experience managing multiple projects or leading a component (e.g., sub-project) of a major project. - Experience managing relationships with stakeholders and partners and leading consultation sessions. - Experience implementing provincial land management planning processes. - Valid BC Class 5 Driver's Licence or equivalent. - Preference may be given to those with fire/fuel management experience. | |
