Job Overview

Reporting to the manager, mine civil operations, you will own the strategic direction of the contractor workforce in mine operations and lead a team to deliver safe, efficient and operational contractor plans in compliance with our operational discipline behaviours.

Key Accountabilities

  • Ensure effective and fit for purpose input into construction execution plans and support the continuous improvement of construction practices
  • Show dedication to developing and implementing actions to mitigate potential risks and challenges to operational planning
  • Engage in contract formation, contractor selection and work with supply chain for contractor scopes of work
  • Ensure compliance to the operational excellence management system (OEMS) element 10, contractor management best practices, including alignment and post project meetings and documentation
  • Be committed to ensuring no contractors begin work prior to satisfying the readiness for site mobilization requirements
  • Act as single point of contact for the asset development and execution model (ADEM) execution phases
  • Take initiative and provide input on the development of mine contractor plans and strategy
  • Continuously seek out operational efficiencies opportunities within and between civil projects
  • Ensure construction activities are aligned with customer requirements and identifying opportunities for repeat business

Required Qualifications

Experience and Education:

  • 10 or more years of experience in mining operations and projects
  • Extensive experience with risk reviews and process hazard assessments
  • Oil and gas industry experience is preferred
  • Degree in engineering, project management, technical diploma or equivalent experience
  • High School Diploma or General Education Diploma (GED)
  • Possess a valid driver’s licence and a clean driving record

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Extensive process and equipment knowledge, including detailed field experience in mining and/or civil earthworks operations and project management
  • Demonstrated functional expertise in contractor management
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and SAP
  • Strong planning, analytical and problem solving skills combined with strong leadership skills
  • You hold others accountable, and expect others to do the same

Working Conditions

  • If you reside outside of Fort McMurray, relocation of your primary residence to within 60 km of Fort McMurray is mandatory
  • Relocation support will be provided; we offer highly competitive housing assistance to eligible candidates
